It is possible that the MTA could get Gillig for their CNG order since they borrowed a 2021 Advantage BRT Plus CNG unit from NICE a couple years ago.

Doubt they will do that though. And even if they do, they'd likely not order them,

Eventually yeah. We're going to have Xcelsiors replacing Xcelsiors in the coming years along with the possibility of X3-45 replacing x3-45s.

In other news, more O7 buses have just been retired:

2007 Orion 7.501 OG Hybrid #3759 is now retired out of JFK Depot. Only around 15 more OG O7s left to go,

2008-2009 Orion 7.501 NG Hybrids #3816 and #3984 are also now retired from JFK Depot and are heading to ECH for scrapping.

Also 3710, 3802, 3822, and 3860 are retired from JFK.

especially since the order has been nerfed down to only 110 buses. If New Flyer has a backlog, I could see the MTA doing this believe it or not. Times are changing, and we are not in 2004 (or hell, even 2014) anymore when we thought this was truly impossible.

Still. Gillig doesn't handle big orders usually.

True, but 110 buses is well within their range. I think with the bus market really starting to clear out, we may see some changes as far as how Gillig operates. NICE has a 160+ order with them ongoing, so we'll have to wait and see, Historically, MSBA/MTA LIB/NICE Bus has been used as a test bed more or less for future buses orders in the city (especially CNGs). Fun fact, the Orion 5s started out in Nassau first.

Seems 4119, 4278, 4557, and 4601 are long term loans at College Point as they have stickers now.

3695, 3752, 3761, 3763, 4117, and 4646 from JFK are retired. 4037 and 4081 from Eastchester are also retired.

#4646 wouldn't be the first 2010 Orion 7.501 NG Hybrid to be retired.

Additionally 2009 Orion 7.501 NG Hybrids #3984, #4074 and #4376 are now both retired from MTA bus.

2009 Orion 7.501 NG Hybrid #4278 is supposedly repainted as well. Can anyone confirm that?

D4500CL 3000 will be preserved by the New York Transit Museum.

9068, 9083 and 9086 to JFK

4119, 4557 College Point back at LGA

Now that's a shocker as I didn't think they would save another MCI, let alone a CL. At the same time, it does make sense as 2004 MCI D4500CL #3000 was MTA bus Company's first ever brand new bus at the time of the takeover. Hopefully, they can finally preserve (although the chances are getting slimmer by the day) an Orion 7.501 OG Hybrid.

2023-2024 New Flyer XD40 #9381, delivered NEW to ECH Depot.

2023 Nova LFS #9047, pending delivery to JFK Depot.

2009 Orion 7.501 NG Hybrid #4388 is now retired from LGA Depot with 2009 Orion 7.501 NG Hybrid #4074 pending retirement as well. Surprised no more OGs have been retired lately considering they have like..10 left in systemwide.

The BC CNG order was nerfed to 110 because part of the funding was used to fund the BC novas.

How many buses are in the NYC transit museum ?

About 2 dozen including: 6 RTS's (with a 7th one pending), 1 Grumman 870, about 7 GMC New Looks (possibly with an 8th one pending, though it would be from NICE bus), 1 Mack, 3 Flexible New Looks, 1 MCI Classic, 1 New Flyer D60HF (pending), 3 Orion 5.501s( two of which are ex-Bee Lines units), 1 Orion 6.501 Hybrid, 1 MCI D4500 (with a second one pending, CL version), and several of really old 1920s-early 1950s models. We are waiting to see if an Orion 7.501 of some kind gets preserved too.

Keep in mind that there are several other MTA buses that are preserved outside of MTA property, including atleast 3 more RTS's 1 additional MCI D4500 (ex NYBS), and 2 more MCI Classics.

2023-2024 New Flyer XD40s #9272, #9284, #9286, and #9288 all delivered NEW to LGA Depot.

2023 Nova LFS #9011, delivered NEW to JFK Depot.

2024 Nova LFS #9138 delivered NEW to JFK Depot.

9117, 9125, 9131 delivered to JFK

9282, 9289 delivered to LGA

4188 still active

4358 (JFK) retired

Ok, so it seems that the base order of 135 LFS's #8964-9098 are 2023 models while #9099 and up are 2024 models. To keep things simple.

Green Mountain Transit (GMT) in Vermont is seeking to transfer its seven 2013 MCI D4500CT, numbered 930 to 936, to NYCT. The MTA was scheduled to send staff to GMT from 2/21 to 2/23 to inspect the buses. Hopefully it will accept them.

930, 932, and 934 haven't been used since 2021, and the rest since 2022, so they still have life in them.

No word yet on new numbers or depot assignment.

My speculation is they will probably be numbered 2305-2311, continuing the D4500CT range.

Background: GMT purchased and took delivery of the seven (7) MCI over the road coach buses in exhibit one below in October 2013 for service on the LINK routes.

QfQVqgh.png

During the pandemic GMT removed the coaches from service due to a reduction in commuter ridership, supply chain challenges and maintenance staffing issues.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requires that over the road coach buses remain in-service for a minimum of twelve (12) years. Periods of extended removal from service do not count towards useful life. Based on the original in-service dates and the last inservice dates the coaches have approximately three (3) years of remaining useful life before they can be disposed.

Due to sustained pandemic related changes in ridership patterns, ongoing maintenance staffing challenges and the significant repair costs to restore the buses, GMT has no short term plans to utilize the buses in revenue service.

Rolling Stock Transfer: GMT has identified NYCT as a possible FTA recipient to transfer the coach buses to. Pursuant to Chapter IV, section 4.o.(4).e of FTA circular 5010.1E “With prior FTA approval, a recipient may transfer rolling stock that has not yet served its useful life to another recipient…… The federal interest in the rolling stock will be transferred with the rolling stock, and therefore, there is no obligation to reimburse FTA”.

To date GMT has sent NYCT pictures and the complete maintenance records of the coaches. NYCT is tentatively scheduled to visit Vermont from 2/21 through 2/23 to inspect the buses. If the buses are in satisfactory condition they would accept a transfer of the coaches as-is and be responsible for transport costs from Vermont to New York City.

In accordance with FTA Circular 5010.IE GMT has sent a written request to the FTA for approval to transfer the MCI coaches to NYCT.

Pursuant to FTA Circular 5010.IE “The transferring recipient’s board resolution (or other appropriate legal action) should identify the receiving recipient, include a statement that the vehicles are no longer required, a list of the vehicles to be transferred including the Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs), and the remaining federal interest that is transferred to the receiving recipient.

Staff Recommend Motion: I move that the GMT Board of Commissioners authorize a rolling stock transfer of the seven (7) 2013 MCI D4500 coach buses included in exhibit one of this memo to the New York City Transit Authority
