andrethebusman
Couple of minor correections to old Samtrans: Ikarus 286's were 700-709. I have seen them listed as 780-789 also, but photos show 700-709 series. Possibly some renumbered when 93 Gilligs 700-763 showed up?? 216-218 were 4509's (originally San Diego) not 4507's (my typo!) Two more ex MARTA 4518's might have existed. 1982 APTA fleet lists 15, while my lists show only 13 116-122 and 132-137, which matches 1978 APTA list. Since these came third-hand (at least), possibly two more were put in service later. Will see what I can find. Also, all the little buses listed were apparently used in "regular" services, though many must have been dial-arides in the various towns involved. The two newer batches, the 1993 Ford/Champion Challengers 200-218 and 1991 Ford/ElDorado Hawks were strictlty for paratransit service. The Champions replaced the 1986 Ford/Gillig E58PT's 200-218 which were also paratransit as far as I can tell.
andrethebusman
SamTrans was always good about reusing numbers... in 1998 200-218 were 1993 Champion Challengers, 250-259 were 1997 ElDorado Aerotechs. The Aerotechs replaced the 1991 ElDorado Hawks (please put this model name in list!) by 2010, 200-213 were 2008 ElDorado Amerivans, 220-238 2007 ElDorado Aerotechs, 240-249 2005 ElDorado Aerotechs, 250-259 2007 ElDorado Amerivans, 260-269 2009 ElDorado Aerotechs I know some think going into this detail on minivans is excessive, but if they are authority-ownerd and -operated, as these are, they should be listed, I think! More Samtrans adds: As of 1998 Neoplan artics 116-130, NFIL Artics 9500-9529, and Gilligs 882-899 had a "9" prefix to their numbers, designating they were in "Gray Line" service. Apparently this actually means they were in Greyhound service, as the Hound local service was apparently kept separate from the "local" service for many years. Finally, there is the issue of MV Transportation, which operates some service for Samtrans. Buses 137-154 (NABI's), 471-490, 663-665, 667-672 (Gilligs) are assigned to MV, as are two small batches that have non-standard numbers: 2240-2242 2003 ElDorado Aerotechs, 2900-2903 2009 Gillig G27E102R2's. Both are apparently in general=public service, so should be included.

andrethebusman
Early Samtrans was a strange operation. They attempted to operate a "basic grid" with "flexible route" feeders. This is where they used the horde of vans, in actual public service not true dial-a-ride. The whole idea fell apart pretty soon and they went to a traditional route structure. There were apparently a couple of places in California that tried this, bus Samtrans was by far the biggest.

As far as the Gilligs go, I read that those had HT-740's, not HT-747's. I read it from transit agencies who bought 1983 Gilligs. Thanks for the correction on the Flyer D900 and D901.
