Valley Metro (Phoenix)

I saw 6742 yesterday with a full wrap. With a bright green front and a dominant light blue color scheme on the wrap, it didn't look good. If wraps are going to be the norm, VM probably should explorer a more muted color design (i.e. ditch the purple front).

Any wonders as to what is going on with 4501, 4502 and 4505?

4501 and 4502 were last seen in December near 92nd Street and Via Linda as per TransSee.

4505 was last seen near Miller Road and Marny Drive in Tempe on September 24, 2022 by TransSee.

Also, 4510 is back on routes with the Scottsdale Trolley.

I'm told that buses are rotated between active, spare, and contingency every so often.

92nd and Via Linda is the Scottsdale school bus garage.    The property south of the Scottsdale PD at McKellips and Miller (4505) is the Scottsdale Public Works.

After further research, it was learned that the diesel buses were refueled at the south facility, while the CNG units were refueled at Via Linda. All of the buses had been based at the south facility, but now everything has moved to Via Linda.

This just in...  Valley Metro plans to buy 20 Gillig CNG buses for delivery beginning "December 31, 2024" and option an additional 20 for delivery beginning "December 31, 2025". These will be purchased off the Washington State DES contract.  The Valley Metro Board will  decide this month.

Outside of that, there are no active or planned procurements, even though it has been approved for FTA funding to acquire electric buses.

So this is going to happen.

Then.....RPTA plans to acquire 20 Gillig electric buses coming from the City of Phoenix contract. Four pilot buses will arrive in 2027. There seems to be a question as to how early, but RPTA doesn't want them before the infrastructure is ready, which is penciled in for 1st quarter 2027. The remaining 16 buses would arrive in the later half of 2028.
