Yes, you can see it clearly on the video above (7167). Once 7167 goes by the crosswalk (on the video), you see the lower left tail light (above the turn signal) is blinking instead of "twinkling". Azbusguy
Yeah. 9pm to 5:30am. That just changed on Monday with the extension of service hours.
Azbusguy
We just got a new shipment of buses in today. Dunno how many, but I've had 5231 and 5229. The paper from earlier only went up to 5228. Both had 805 miles on them. So wherever they're built must be about 800 miles away maybe?

Azbusguy
Sounds about right. Add a few miles for testing at the factory to make sure it worked.
PhxCNG
When a bus overheats, does the driver get it towed back and someone, from the E/B takes over the run in a different, or does E/B drive a new bus to the driver to continue on route, and E/B driver goes with the Wrecker
Azbusguy
It depends. Usually, there are extra board drivers in spare buses stationed at holding areas throughout the city. When a bus overheats and breaks down, they'll send a "radio helper" from a holding area to take over the route, and send a mechanic to see if he can get the broken down bus back on the road again. If it has to be towed, depending on where on the route the radio helper is, and the route, they'll either have the radio helper continue the route until they meet up with the dead bus, then swap buses with the original driver, or send out another extra board driver with a new bus to swap out. In that case, the radio helper keeps going to the end of the route, then either returns to the holding area, or back to the garage.

Are holding areas, just Park and rides and transit centers?
Azbusguy
Some are. Sunnylope Transit center is one, Metro Center is another. There's also a holding area at Central and Camelback, and I believe in a bus bay at Highland and 16th Street.

Azbusguy
Probably ran out of gas. They're testing the range on the new buses to see how far they can push them. We've had a few get towed back to the yard the past week or so with empty tanks. Scary thing is, a couple days ago, the guy in charge of scheduling the buses said "They should be good for 600 miles. They made the drive from California on one tank." And I'm thinking "That's all highway. There's a reason when you buy a car they give the mpg in city and highway. City mpg is usually half to 3/4 of highway. Lots and lots of stop and go, and idling with the A/C on."

If you were to mimic a bus operation in your car, you would never make the the "city" rating.

Azbusguy
Supposedly there is, as well as a list of the different types of buses ranges. But I think they're still trying to figure out the range for the new Gilligs.

Azbusguy
Hmm. We were really short staffed last night. Didn't get finished fueling until 8am (supposed to finish at 5:30am) They might have sent an artic or two out because the usual bus wasn't ready. Azbusguy
8003 isn't one of ours. Everything below 8051 is gone now from both garages. Unless it was a Total Transit bus deadheading.

First Transit West however operates a large fleet of artics.

Azbusguy
We are up to 5239 as of yesterday. Now if only someone would talk them into slowing down on buying new buses, and maybe hire more people to clean and fuel them. As it is we can't keep up and have buses going out late because of waiting to be fueled.
MAX BRT
How about both? New buses and more people to clean and fuel them! Public Transit creates jobs.
