King of Kings
I read a Sun article on this on Sunday, and found it rather interesting. So, if you had $44 Million to spen on signing players, and making your own NHL team, who would you take? Keep in mind, you can't go over the salary cap of $44 Million, and taking a bunch of players like Jaromir Jagr, Brendan Shanahan, Rob Blake, Peter Forsberg, Joe Sakic, Milan Hejduk, among others, means you have to go with small money players, young guys, which can mean less experience. The team has to have a roster of 20 players to be able to compete in the NHL, so once you've hit 20, feel free to add a few extras. Keep in mind the bigger name players make approx. 5-9 Million a season, and the not so well known make anywhere between league minimum($750,000 I think) to 4 or 5 Million, depending on how valued they are by the team. Anyway, here's mine. GOALIES: 39 Huet, Cristobal 30 Aebischer, David DEFENCEMEN: 48 Orpik, Brooks 3 Phaneuf, Dion 44 Souray, Sheldon 24 McCabe, Bryan 52 Rivet, Craig 25 Dandeneault, Mathieu FORWARDS: 11 Koivu, Saku 27 Kovalev, Alexei 37 Bergeron, Patrice 19 Spezza, Jason 40 Tanguay, Alex 91 Savard, Marc 48 Briere, Daniel 23 Drury, Chris 87 Crosby, Sidney(*) 12 Staal, Eric 71 Malkin, Evgeni 11 Staal, Jordan EXTRA PLAYERS: 26 St. Louis, Martin 4 Lecavalier, Vincent 8 Ovechkin, Alexander *Denotes injured player OC 4439

Mike
A question for everyone who listed their teams: are forwards listed in the order of lines that they will play on? (I.e. in Michael T's team is Crosby playing on the 4th line and Scott Gomez is a bench player? Let's see who's over the cap: GMNewLook: $50,397,227 MichaelT: $51,417,180 (not including Pogge) STM_5307N: $84,499,000 OC 4439: $75,362,267 For a list of current NHL salaries look here. Hehe everyone is over cap. $44 million.... The challenge should be to make a good team for the cheapest cost.
Mike
Hehe everyone is over cap. $44 million.... The challenge should be to make a good team for the cheapest cost. Not to mention that a lot of people picked players who are currently locked in to 3-4 year contracts at entry level salaries who would be unavailable for their teams and who would be commending much higher salaries when they become restricted free agents (Crosby, Malkin, Jordan Staal, Ovechkin).
