SMS
This appears to be a temporary replacement for Monette-Lafleur during the construction work on the Mercier Bridge, but we'll see if it becomes permanent, right? Hmm, this is certainly very interesting. I guess they scrapped Monette / Lafleur because of all that construction that was going on there. I noticed that some of the access roads were closed when we stopped there on the 60-013 charter a few months ago.
Mystic
Hmm, this is certainly very interesting. I guess they scrapped Monette / Lafleur because of all that construction that was going on there. I noticed that some of the access roads were closed when we stopped there on the 60-013 charter a few months ago. Yeah it's a pretty dangerous place, falling debris and the upcoming replacement of the roadway, and I remember recently they removed all the permanent shelters and replaced them with concrete ones, so perhaps they were planning this for a while. I noticed this a few posts back that it mentioned the new terminus in their planibus. Gotta go find it now. And BTW: I think I know exactly where this terminus will be. In the parking lot of Seagrams. I noticed last week passing by that they have a sign up that they are adding a stop sign on Newman to go into effect on August 21st and I thought it strange to make a 4 way stop into a parking lot, especially when the intersection of Airlie and Newman have one just a few feet away. kellergraham
Look closely at where "Terminus Monette-Lafleur" is pointing to on the 2009 STM Plan du Reseau
David D.
Looking forward to this major change for transit in Lasalle, the most major since Monette-Lafleur itself was built! The new terminus will be at the NorthEast corner of the intersection of Airlie/Newman. So far it looks like two entrances on Newman and one on Airlie itself. I drove in the terminus last night, so far the dirt/gravel has been compacted down in preparation for the ashfaulting. There are Pre-existing Benches/Garbages/Streetlights from the previous parking lot. What is known for sure is that Yes there will be a stop sign on Newman for at least one of the entrances (or exit, depending on if its ONE WAY or not) to be put into effect on August 28, and that the Terminus itself will be in the shape of a TRIANGLE which is sort of interesting. Also that according to the planibus's the OFFICIAL new name of the Terminus is TERMINUS NEWMAN-AIRLIE. Here is an old article on the subject from the Lasalle Messenger (bear in mind its not the best of articles) Also back in june they were calling it Newman-Lafleur... prolly just totally made up by the lasalle messenger, that wouldn't surprise me. http://www.messagerlasalle.com/article-347...r-terminal.html
SMS
There's a great map of the terminal layout here http://stm.info/info/infostm/2009/090824.pdf Addendum for good measure http://stm.info/en-bref/soum-09/so090716b.htm

Also the map might be wrong too because there's supposed to be an entrance on Airlie st as well.
David D.
UPDATE!: Concrete has been layed the past few days for all of the bus shelters. So far only one bus shelter is fully up, its the Blue CBS one's and it has something on the roof! Possibly a vent! Also Ashphalt is being laid around the terminus
David D.
UPDATE!: The Terminus is complete and ready to go! Everything is complete except the Stop sign on Newman hasnt been put into place yet but the stop lines and crosswalk lines have all been painted. All the bus stop flags on Lafleur have been changed to reflect the change. Cover up signs have been placed at ML terminus with maps of the new Terminus on them. In the Terminus itself everything is complete, all the shelters are up, all the flags (except the 112, which has a cover up sign, every other flag is proper). All the traffic signs and lines are all there. Including the bus layover parking lines. All the lights in the Terminus are on. They are high pressure small sodium lights that were already there from the pre-existing parking lot so they went cheap on that, however it does the job well. SMS
Enjoy these pics that I took this morning with Dave! The STM personnel there (two customer service reps) were very polite and helpful and didn't mind one bit my photography (they knew who I was hehe ) and the CO pretty much ignored us which was fine by me! As you can see by the temporary nature of the terminus, it's not here to last... there are two port-a-potties and no driver lounge because there are no sewers to make a real bathroom for them. There will be fences put up as well and probably more signage to keep people from walking across the roadway (the CO and cust serv reps had to tell people to stay on the 'sidewalk' which is nothing bus raised asphalt btw). The job was done in a hurry obviously. No yellow curbside paint, benches sitting on concrete blocks, not all bus stop flags were made in time, temporary stop signs are installed on Newman... but considering the little time they had to set up it's still impressive. There is a very good layover zone for at least 6 buses (3 rows x 2 back to back). The MTQ actually owns the land that Monette-Lafleur sits on and because of the bridge work, MTQ needed the space. The STM predicts they will need to use Newman-Airlie anywhere from 2-3 years. I'm very pleased that I was able to bring 60-013 to Monette-Lafleur on our fan charter in April.
