I heard that they'll be delivered in 2023, and all of our 3900 Series buses to be replaced by 2025

You say delivered in 2023 but I could see it be delayed to 2024 given how the supply chain and chip shortage is impacting the economy as of right now. So my I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll arrive by january 2024.

Actually, yeah believe that. Especially for our over 150 Gilligs, that order's not gonna come through quick. However, NFI guaranteed RTD a Late-2022 or Early-2023 delivery slot for the EV buses, so let's see how that pans out.

46 though generally having 3900 buses, is not a “usual 29-foot route” like some of the 400s are because it has substantially higher ridership, higher than almost 50 other routes in 2018, and all FlexRide areas. Most of those other routes having 40 foots and some even 60 foots (3L)

Anyhow, there’s a 40-foot on the 46 every day, I would never classify it as a 29-Foot Route

So what new  buses are you guys getting?

The Regional Transportation District has placed an order for 17 New Flyer XE40 Battery-Electric buses, 117 Gillig Low-Floor 40-Foot Diesel buses, and 25 Gillig Low-Floor 29-Foot Diesel buses. The XE40s and LF40s are intended to replace the remainder of the 5100 and 5200 Series Gillig Low-Floors currently in service (All surviving examples are from 2006-2008) and the LF29s are intended to replace the older of the 3900 Series Gillig Low-Floor buses from 2006.

Ya'll ever considered CNG buses?

We've had CNG buses longer than a lot of other agencies. Since the mid to late 1980s we've had alternative fuel vehicles including Methanol, CNG, and Battery-Electric. And we had a fleet of 36 CNG vehicles from 2000 to 2017. However, I guess the mechanics hate CNG vehicles as they're more difficult to maintain (well, the CNG/Hybrid-Electric ones that we had were) and CNG itself is expensive, and we can't afford it, Lol

especially with RTD being busy trying to expand its rail network more these past few years it gets expensive real quick

Bus #3957 a 29 ft gillig is running on the JUMP route this morning. This is this first time I've seen a small bus run on a line that is usually operated by 40 ft 2006 or 2017 vehicles.

That’s amazing! I’ll have to see it if it’s still running.

#57 has a wrap signifying JUMP service, and JUMP used 29/30 foot buses from its introduction until 2020 where larger buses were swapped in due to COVID.

Anyhow, I’d hate to be nit picky, but JUMP being in Boulder would use either First Transit operated 5100 or 5200 series buses (2006-2007) or Boulder Division based 6100 or 6200 series buses (2014-2015)

As I found out, 3957 was on a peak-only block schedule, explaining why it disappeared mid-day

And today, all of the normal and peak-only schedules have buses on them, so unless it comes in later tonight. It’ll just be 40s on the JUMP, and tbh, all of the CTN (except HOP)

I want to say clever devices but I'm not sure if that is true or not.

It is true, we've used Clever Devices on our buses since we got text-to-speech on our buses in 2012-2013

I'm hoping with the announcement of the contract yesterday RTD is able to finally restore more service especially in Boulder County

Oh yeah that’s not gonna help anything I don’t think. Maybe staff retention but that won’t let them expand, it’ll just help with school trips being cancelled
