  1. The designs on the new hybrids are painted on - I was talking about the HSR logo being decals and are added later when they arrive.

OHH! i see... i misunderstood you... sorry

On the D41LF's, do you think hsr is gonna put a wrap saying "hamiltons first hybrid bus" other transit companies did that, even TTC..

It would help get the word on the street that we now have hybrid busses.

  2. Well I googled what I saw written on the bus, it's definitely for the Port Authority of NY NJ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Authority_Bus_Terminal

As you will see definetly not the colours of NJ Transit... so I dunno.

Kyle: I was just lucky it was still there when I was done my shift... it was raining pretty well all day, came home at 3:30pm had a nap, and went out at 6pm and brought my camera in case it was indeed there, by this time the rain had stopped and it cleared up B)

this bus looks new and all, but how come its all rusty at the front and back bumper?

  3. OH MY GOD! , YOU know "Poppa" I have known that man since I was 6 years old, he ahs been one of my closest friends for YEARS!

LOL ask Chris or Matthew they are two wonderful young men that ride with him all the time, I miss John horribly, I never got to say goodbye when I left Hamilton, I miss him so much, he helped me through a lot of challanges through my life.

Sweetest person you could EVER know. HANDS DOWN.

Hey, By the way, chris is my cousin... and john just came back again from surgery... is this the same chris i am talking about?

John is retiring next year!!! that is sad!!! i will never see him again!!

  4. As the designer of the winning bus design - I was told to leave it off my final design as they would be added later as decals. So when they are finally on the road and I assume at the press conference - they will all be decaled out!

Just to give some of you the background of my design - the "swooshes and swoops" as they've been called represent the sweeping lines and magestic curves of Hamilton's two natural wonders - the harbour and escarpment. Blue representing the water of the harbour and gold showcasing the beauty that is the escarpment. The design also highlights our placement at the Head of the Lake and as the Hub of the Golden Horseshoe. I also think the curves will look great when the bus is breezing along King or Main Streets when it is on the B-Line. Lots of movement, fluidity and much more organic that the static lines that are a fixture on most of the HSR line.

Are you the guy that designed our 06 artic? it is nice.... you said they are gonna put a bus wrap on the hybrids?

  5. I saw the artic too, I live off Emerson in Hamilton where it runs after leaving the University, nice to see!! What would be interesting to see, when the new de60lf arrive, is some sort of parade of buses, such as old to new.. kind of like how Translink celebrated their new Flyer Trolley arrivals, albeit on a much smaller scale, for obvious reasons. Or at least a show and tell of our new arrivals such as we did with our new d40lf arrivals at City Hall. Too bad we don't celebrate our Transit heritage as other systems do!

Was that the first time you saw it in a while? Or was i just unlucky missing it?

  6. The order of 34 buses was a combined order for 2006/07. HSR wanted the diesels and the hybrids to have a separate series number so they chose 06 for the hybrids and 07 for the diesels.

Upon reflection, it might have been best to reverse the series. The diesels, while numbered 07 actually are 2006 models according to the builders plate. The hybrids, while numbered 06 are 2007 models according to the builders plate.

Nice photos Kevin!! I was expecting that the hybrids would have the restyled front! i cant win!

On the artic photo, is that a wood floor, or a piece of card board?

  7. The Oktoberfest sign is "GEMUELICHKEIT," I believe (and it means "very happy times," I believe). Some of my favourite GRT P/R messages include "Good Evening," "Good Morning," "Welcome Aboard," "Hello," "Thank You for Riding the Bus," "We're Glad to Have You," "Please Come Again," and my personal favourite, "Out of Service."

Okay... so the first two are true... and for whatever reason, they BOTH have a picture of a sun on them (isn't that normally associated with the rising sun in the morning)? I often wish that they didn't have so many useless signs (some P/R messages are useful, like... um... well none of them really).

Wow, you gave me a laugh... I didnt think about"out of service"!!!haha so hsr does have a P/R

  8. It won't necessarily be the same drivers from the University route driving the new buses, as the new Artics will be used for the B-LINE route, which is an entirely different sign-up. I am by far an expert, but I would think these new buses would need some sort of training as it is a different type of bus technology from what the HSR i used to, and they have more gadgets I am sure.....Anyways I am sure they will fine, just hope the vandals don't destroy them, like it seems they are doing to the '07's. I can't wait to see if they go to all day service on the B-LINE run if the new Artics will be used for the day or just the busiest portion of the service day.

did you see the artic being delivered?

  9. HSR 99xx on route 3 Cannon by the looks of it.

funny thing is, i dont know myself! its on route 21,22,23,24,25,26,27,33,35

    Its 9903.

because if you look at the bus in person, it doesnt have a side ad holder.. taken before 9906 had its ad removed.. so it is 9903

  10. Neopasturquoise was making a quiz-thread in the British Columbia section, so I made one for GTA here.

    So here we go.

    Guess the following:

    1. Fleet #

    2. Route

    3. Location

    Good luck!

Wow, this IS a guess.. i dont know but here i go!

    fleet: 8104

    route: 4

    location:??????

  11. I guess the drivers need more training because it is a newer bus and it has more features? I was hoping they would come out sometime this week.... :) Im dying to see it in person!!!! or as a picture, i already say the design by the man from mixed media.... nice bus eh? what does the de60lfr look like at the back of the bus?

I was curious what they have to train the 51 University drivers. They no how to use an artic!!???

  12. Just to take this discussion slightly off topic, one of my biggest peeves is sitting in the left-hand corner of the bus usually a high floor fishbowl or Orion V, and the fumes are just unbareable in that seat. You would think that exhaust stack was pointing back into the bus. Very nauseating even with the window open. Every now and then I happen to get one of these buses but, the problem is not as bad as it was before.

I agree, i hate the smell of diesel fumes... Do you notice when you sit in some older highfloor busses at the back, the seats really, really hot? i was on an HSR 89'er (1989 Orion) I burnt my leg, (I was wearing shorts) :)
