Grand River Transit 8022-8027
Grand River Transit 8022-8027 are Nova Bus LFS HEV buses built in 2008.
At the end of 2007, the Region of Waterloo accepted a proposal from Nova Bus for the delivery of 112 buses between 2008 and 2012. This order was purchased alongside their 2008 diesel order at a cost of $10,695,058.20. The region decided to evaluate the performance of hybrid buses of low speed, stop and go routes such as the route 7.[1] Over a two year study, it was determined the buses used 16% less fuel in such conditions. The region decided to further invest in hybrid buses for 2010 and 2011. 8022-8027 feature special graphics advertising they are hybrid buses. Instead of following the previous numbering scheme of 2 followed by the last digit of the year, the buses were numbered in the 8000 series because the region already had vehicles numbered in the 2800 series.
