Orion 7 design is my favorite. Followed by Nova where you do everything with your left hand and your fingers line up with the switches when you push the door handle forward. This seems more complicated to use and less intuitive.  I find the shorter handle in new Novas annoying,  nevermind actually having a dial switch.

As J boic explains, youre opinion is welcome, but its a fan''s opinion with no substance or justification. Time will tell if this control stays or goes. Until then, let the professionals make the call.

According to the replies Steve Munro got from the TTC in his latest post, there is some information about the T1 overhaul, which the TTC will begin to assess this year. It also has been confirmed that the SSE will not be built with ATC signalling equipped, but with conventional block signalling. It sounds like we are many many years away from ATC on the Bloor-Danforth line. If the TTC activates ATC on the line in the late 2020s or early 2030s, it remains a mystery as to whether or not the T1s will be retrofitted for that

Hurray for snail pace infrastructure development! Still stuck in the glory days of the 80s I see!

Wonder if NFI will get the order this time, that would be interesting.

not to mention will they come with the never used exterior door opening buttons. Have they ever been used in passenger service? Every order has them but ive never seen any being activated. Was this a relic spec from 2005 that they didnt bother removing?

Also on a wider note, will YRT/Viva ever modernise crystal? Her bionic voice is clearly way obsolete and can do with a new software upgrade

For 4471, more like how many months. It's not some cosmetic thing we're talking about.

i have a feeling it might noot even return to service given the fact that its been waterlogged with raw sewage. Theyll probably have to strip it down to the frame in order to clean it and rebuild it

Looks like TTC is doing two emergency exercises, named "Operation Rolling Thunder" at York University, but the name came under fire after it was used during the Vietnam War.

well of all places to name an emergency exercise after a war op, they had to pick the most left wing anti war school to host it in. Seriously though, they really have nothing more important to worrry about than to complain and whine about a simple name. Its not like its named op sealion or barbarossa. people are so damn sensitive about the smallest thing these days.....

  6. Well seeing that bbr is desperately trying to get back on track and ttc is getting more cars more frequently perhaps this is really low on the priority list. They have enough cars for their current schedule so perhaps theyll retain the car for testing and training.  i think they'll eventually send it back, but not for a while

Thanks for telling me this Dan. You're right though. An announcement is the last thing to complain about.

it would make a whole world of difference if the voice type wasnt so bad at pronunciation. makes every announcement cringeworthy which is why its

so hard for people to filter it out as white noise...its just a constant thorn in ones ears

Why init still not working right? TTC ZUM work good on there buses but not init on it?

Some bus you hear good inside but most it to low, then out side yrt buses it low and to slow and bus left then lol. On the viva it the same inside, but out side only the vanhool works but slow and nova stop saying.

The init system in general os really out of date to begin with. Crystals pronunciations are just terrible at times and very robotic. Yrt needs to invest in new software that better mimics the natural human voice

  9. It's kind of a shame that via brushes off these delays especially the ones that are less than an hour as if it's business as usual. I just wrapped up my trip in Japan and man all the trains are on the minute and the rare delays with the local lines are explained immediately. The shinkansen is always on time despite travelling at over 300km/h with multiple different trains weaving around it.

At one point 4 trains stopping at different stations and frequencies were separated by only 12 minutes. That's the Japanese. I only hope our service standards will begin to approach theirs soon

A good number of viva buses have announcements back, I think novas only tho. They are really quite however but doesn't sound bad anymore either.

For those asking about the law here it is:

    https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/110191#BK57

I think this case was a major player in the speed of which the systems where put in:

    https://www.thestar.com/news/2007/08/06/human_rights_ruling_set_to_change_sound_of_transit.html

For vivanext hwy 7 eastbound, this means situations like this one are just going to get worst because one is no longer allowed to make rights on red (the annoying factor of viva green at enterprise, coming to a purple near you). They'd be better off to leave vivanext alone till it's counterpart opens up later this year...

For Westbound lane it's unlikely (they did state it won't) to use it unless they installed the funky "will only ever use once but never take down because they make it look cool lights" like at the 404 bridge center lane part. Maybe someone here could give some insight as to why those lights still even exist? Eastbound ones might still be used for RYB signals but I've not paid much attention to it.

@tommike as said above like how the green does it, while you twiddle your thumbs at the red waiting for the green light the bus you want goes driving by saying "YOLO~, guess you should of grabbed the earlier bus ^_^" Reasons why I take the 68 or walk now are going to be the same reasons I'm going to avoid the purple till the subway extension.

IMO i dont really mind stop announcements for every stop....but for the love of god please replace crystal on YRT/VIVA!!!

its robotic butchery of street names is just agonizing....please yrt update the software...

Couldn't you not take some time and look up online for some actual photo editing software/websites to render your photo? Like MS Paint is the worst application you could use to "photoshop" your pic... This looks like you did it in two minutes..

Yea.....we would be delighted if you can provide us with your rendering and how much more superior it is to the ops job.

Really, show some class and actually be a bit grateful that someone actually took their time to visualize something out. To most people it's decent enough until someone actually sits down for a few hours to round off the edges. Please don't make this forum toxic. It's already bad enough at Urban Toronto with armchair politicians and urban planners claiming to know everything

Considering a few weeks ago, I was on an TTC artic that had slam hard on it's brakes, cause some idiot turning left didn't see the bus going along, and caused like 10 people to fall like dominoes, those annoucements are very necessary, you just have to learn to tune them out.

IMO its more because of annoying crystal than the message itself. YRT should seriously consider updating the voice itself being over 10 years old. Not to mention some of the messages really need to be truncated to be more clear and concise They are using a gen 1 voice tech that was quickly surpassed by what TTC uses, which sounds worlds more natural. I think that would be a more prudent investment than needlessly adding more viva routes that are half full at best
