  1. Any chance the Vicinities will make an appearance on 12 WENTWORTH? my apologies if I've missed this information in a previous post.
  2. Is there anyway to embed the map at all? Currently i have pages at HamiltonTransit.ca for the major HSR bus terminals and embed a google map of the location on the page. It would be much better to have real-time data on said embedded map. Do you know of that is even possible to embed Transit55 map data?
  3. I noticed this too this morning when I boarded 1224. it said to Bell Manor Loop but I don't recall if it said the route too I couldn't hear it from the back of the bus though. Eric Tuck was my driver too.
  4. Just wanted to mention a brief note the HSR did some sort of IT upgrade last week and Transit55 is no longer showing any data. It shows locations but not times, history, or headways.
  5. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I just got on an HSR NOVA bus (1515) and the farebox and Presto reader have been moved. The reader is now between the driver and the farebox facing the back of the bus. The Presto reader is no longer facing the door and awkwardly low. Anyone know if all of the NOVAs are getting this change?
  6. Does anyone know what this bus is? I spotted it this afternoon in downtown Hamilton.
  7. This photo was taken about 2 weeks before the terminal opened. Unless they changed this it's pretty adequately signed I think.
  8. Unless something chanced since I was there a few weeks ago, the stops do say the direction of travel on them.
  9. Someone shared a photo yesterday of one of HSR'S Xcelsiors with a video ad screen in the ad space behind the driver. It is apparently powered by GEOSignage. Does anyone know any more about this project? Is it a pilot? Are they being rolled out system wide?
  10. Thanks for the critiques. I've corrected my few errors.
  11. Does anyone know the City of Hamilton / HSR's policy on convenience stores selling bus tickets for inflated prices? I.e. I've been hearing from people of stores selling single bus tickets for up to $2.50 (instead of the $2.00 they really cost) and being charged from 25-50 cents more for a strip of bus tickets. When questioned some people are being told that "prices have gone up," which of course is a load of nonsense. Seems too that the stores doing this aren't on the HSR's list of ticket vendors so they're likely buying them from other 'real' vendors and then marking them up for a profit. As far as I know tickets are supposed to be sold at face value and aren't allowed to be marked up. Does anyone know for sure?
  12. I've seen your maps. One word: awesome! Thanks for the tip about the Mac library too. I'll check it out.
  13. A couple of things today from items which will be presented at the February 13th General Issues Committee: 2014 Transit Service Enhancement Proposal Don Hull and the public works team will present their proposed 2014 Transit Service Enhancements to the General Issues Committee on February 13th. The proposal recommends service enhancements to two east-west mountain bus routes (43 STONE CHURCH and 44 RYMAL) as well as increasing the area of service on the HSR’s north-south express route, route 20 A-LINE EXPRESS. http://www.hamiltont...ement-proposal/ No Service Increase Planned for 56 CENTENNIAL The HSR will be bringing an information report to the General Issues Committee on February 13th with a report on the status of east end route 56 CENTENNIAL. With ridership declines between 2012 and 2013 the report states there are no plans in increase service to route 56 CENTENNIAL for 2014. The HSR will however monitor ridership trends through 2014 with new commercial developments in the area. If ridership increases, the frequency could be increased with daily service from 6:30am until 11:30pm. http://www.hamiltont...-56-centennial/ A third information report is listed speaking about the potential extension of 22 UPPER OTTAWA into the Red Hill Employment District, which will require an on property bus loop at Maple Leaf. Not a lot in the report aside from fact and figures on the cost.
  14. It was apparently not working the next day but was working just fine today.
  15. Here is a photo of the screen activated.
  16. Thanks! I don't know why I didn't think to look there. The date of May 18th seems to make sense with that being a Monday, which seems a likely date for service to start. Moreso than on Thursday, May 21st. I may have to make a trip back to the Local History & Archives tomorrow and take a dive into it there as well. I guess based on the transit guides varying dates they just weren't 100% sure. Not that anyone aside from the people who post here (myself included) would be really interested in a detail like that though. Thanks again! Random question (and I'm not sure if I've asked this before) but does anyone know where I could find HSR transit maps prior to 1989? Does perhaps the HSR have an archive with previous maps? I've never been able to find anything online and the only one that the Hamilton Public Library Local History & Archives seems to have is the 2003/2004 map, which I already have.
  17. Does anyone know the date of the first streetcar to hit the streets of Hamilton? The Wiki here states May 15, 1874, the HSR Transit guide (2001) says May 21, 1874 while the 2003-2012 HSR Transit guide says June 1874. Earlier guides merely state they the Hamilton Street Railway Company was established in 1873. Does anyone know the official first day of service or establishment?
  18. I have no issue with streamlining the same of 5 DELAWARE so that all branches say "Delaware" and we lose the "West Hamilton" name for route 5C. I think it's time to split the route and perhaps have a stand alone 52 route that runs between Dundas (current 52) and Stoney Creek (current 5) anyway, but that's a topic for another day. The one thing that I do disagree with, which will undoubtedly cause endless confusion and frustration is removing the large 5A, 5C, 1A, 34A etc in favour of putting that in the smaller byline. I have no doubt that this will be missed by many and end up with a lot of people taking the wrong branch or letting the bus pass thinking it's not their bus. I don't know how many times I've heard people complain about the extra 35 COLLEGE that says 'to college only' on the destination line when it goes out of service at Mohawk and doesn't continue along West 5th because they didn't realize the bus ended there. If anything those extras should be designated something like 35A COLLEGE 'to college only.' If there's one thing I've learned over the years it's that people don't like to read signs and making the crucial information even smaller is only going to cause headaches, especially for customer service who will certainly be getting an upswing annoyed complaint calls. I do have a question though. Will the rear route signs still display the full '5A' '10A' etc route branches?
  19. HSR 0214 was also out as a parking lot shuttle yesterday.
  20. Yeah, has anyone snapped a photo of the former HSR bus? I'm never really in Burlington and considering how little the bus seems to be used there is very little chance that I'm going to come across it, but I'd love to see it.
  21. I came across recently retired HSR 9919 last week parked at the Hamilton EMS station at Burlington and Victoria in Hamilton. It looks like the bus is being used as a rescue training vehicle as there are several dummies in and around the bus, including a stretcher. I snapped a bunch of photos if anyone wants to check them out. See more here.
  22. Yeah a presto balance checker inside the terminal building would be nice and make total sense. The desk is for the on-site security staff who are at the MacNab Transit Terminal.
  23. That's cool but too bad that it won't get a Presto reader as it would have been very cool to see it on 1 PLAINS driving through downtown Hamilton again. If you get a photo of the bus I would love to see and share it on @HSRTransit.
  24. Nice. Say would you mind if I shared that on Facebook/Twitter/Blog for people to see? (don't seem to be getting the alerts for new posts right) What does everyone think about the idea of 'graduating' two of the shuttle routes to fully fledged routes. i.e. giving the Mohawk East Extra Shuttle a number like '42 MOHAWK EAST' or something. And maybe giving the 'Redeemer College University Shuttle' a number like '14 REDEEMER.' These shuttle routes have been in operation for quite some time and I would hazard a guess that a lot of people don't know that they exist. I think it might be worthwhile to give 35 COLLEGE that goes to Mohawk College only a letter branch id, like 35A COLLEGE to college only?
