It's exciting to be looking at the routing for the North Crosstown BRT, something that's been definitely needed to provide better E-W connections along 16th Avenue. I think this route would provide a frequent link between a couple of hospitals (major employment centres), help with the development in University District in west campus, and also spur some development for more high density developments along 16th Avenue. Only issues I see with the route is the lack of separated lanes or traffic priority at major intersections such as Centre Street, Edmonton Trail and 19th Street NE which hurts reliability and travel times. Currently, Eastbound 16th between 10th and Edmonton Trail is horrible for congestion during the PM rush, and this doesn't look like it would have any priority in this stretch of road. A problem with BRT branding and subsequent appeal is the lack of time savings over a conventional bus route, so I am not too sure if this would be successful in shifting over current passengers from the current routes (One of the issues with the 306 for example which had to be massively scaled back due to low ridership). So this is an annual event in Calgary that takes place between Christmas and New Years. As indicated in the title it is a hockey tournament that involves 30 to 40 different teams. Of course with hockey comes lots of coaches! Some teams do not have their own coaches so the pictures of "National" units are coaches that shuttle around teams that did not arrive in Calgary with their own chartered bus. So here are some buses from day 1, Dec. 26, 2012 Bi-West Translines (Camrose, AB) MCI J4500 #750 Brandon Bus Lines (Brandon, MB) Prevost H3-45 #914. In 2010 and 2011 this company sent out #915, nice to see a change this year. Charlies Charters (Tisdale, SK) MCI 102EL3 #200, this one showed up in 2011 as well. Maxies Bus Lines (Saskatoon, SK) MCI D4500 #152 National Motor Coach (Calgary, AB) Prevost H3-45 #162 National Motor Coach (Calgary, AB) MCI D4505 (earlier model) #214 Prairie Bus Lines (PWT- Red Deer, AB) MCI D4505 #3001 Prince Albert Northern (Prince Albert, SK) MCI J4500 #162 and #163 Ventures West Charters (Battleford,SK) Prevost H3-45 #976, this is an ex-Autocar Preference coach. Ventures West has a few used coaches it appears, including ex-GLC #924, Sun West #115 and I think a former Dallas Coach H3-45. See their website http://www.ventureswestcharters.ca/fleet.html
