emdx
You probably have heard about the efficiency study the STM has done with the hybrid LFS buses (I can't fathom why this was never been donne at all before, either by the government or a manufacturer - in view of the TTC fiasco, this is rather telling at how hybrid buses are regarded as a gimmick). Today, I have met the engineer responsible, and we talked for a good half hour about that. Turns out that the variable-speed fans fitted on the hybrid buses was just an afterthought. The STM had fitted some hybrid buses with instrumentation to record operating parameters, and had fitted those to some "normal" buses, to be used as control group. One of those buses had the variable speed cooling fans, and they noticed at once a significant increase (up to 16%!!!) fuel economy. At this point, they decided to fit the variable-speed fans to one hybrid bus; fortunately, it was not too late in the project so they could have meaningful data. The instrumented buses are still on the road, and they are collecting more data; the few hybrid buses will be rotated amongst as much different bus lines as possible. SMS
I think the fans are on 28-005 and 28-007 as seen in the video on SRC or RDI?
emdx
No idea. When you talk to such a big shot at a convention, you have to remain above the "busfreak" level (which I am not anyways)...
SMS
OK Marc just for you I found the link in our "bus enthusiast" hybrid sighting thread http://www.radio-canada.ca/emissions/decou...904261830_1.asx
