323 Surrey Ctrl Stn Posted July 17, 2009 Report Share Posted July 17, 2009 Today was the day I've been waiting for for a LONG time, the day I get my paws on my new camera. For the past 6 months I've been looking at all types of DSLR's and ruled out all the options, except for Nikon and Canon. Now I had a Canon XT and loved it, but it was time for a replacement. With my 28-135mm IS long gone all I has was a broken 18-55mm and 50mm, not exactly what I was used too. There were two options; a) Buy the Canon XSi kit or buy a Nikon DSLR Kit. After looking at the XS and XSi, and comparing them to the Nikon counterparts I made my decision, I was switching teams. I fell in love with the Nikon D40 and D60's, they felt as solid as mid-range Canons (40D ect) but were priced much lower. I then did some digging and saw sparkling reviews for the Nikon DSLR's, now I had to decide which model to get. The D40 and D60 are almost identical. The later has more megapixels (which mean nothing), a new "dust reduction" system, and came with a VR (Vibration Reduction) kit lens. It was the VR lens that made me decide to go for the D60. That was one of the deciding factors, all my good Canon lenses B/O'd Why do I have such bad luck with lenses? My 28-135 magically broke (on a bloody trolley), my 18-55mm got smashed up when my bag fell down the stairs leaving me with my 50mm, which is "difficult" to shoot transit on a daily basis. I used to get by with a 28, 50, and 80-200 for a full manual film camera. Chris Cassidy Congrats! I was with you when two of your three lenses broke LOL, if I remember correctly.................. 1.) Your 28-135 IS lens broke after you shot 2513, the first ad-wrapped E60LFR in the world 2.) I'm thinking towards to Nikon as well, simply the warranty and the competition. Right now the money I have is none, will take a year at least unless a new model comes that will interest. Well, based on my personal experience, I beg to differ.............I have been using Canon products since 2004, started with a Canon S500 to the S2 IS to the XTi, which was matched with the 28-135 IS lens and 50mm F1.8 lens, eventually upgrading to a 24-105L lens and a 35mm F1.4L lens, I have been a satisfied customer and I think I got what I paid for! I feel I can get more bang for the buck with Nikon over Canon so I decided "Why the hell not?"
