John Deere Power Systems, a subsidiary of the Moline, Illinois-based Deere & Company (known as John Deere), is an engine manufacturer based in Waterloo, Iowa. Products offered by John Deere Power Systems are primarily off-highway diesel engines, but in 1996 they began offering on-highway compressed natural gas (CNG) engines for the school bus and transit bus markets under the "PowerTech" brand name.
While leveraging their expertise in diesel engines, John Deere Power Systems ultimately failed to find a foothold in the transit market. In early 2007, John Deere Power Systems announced it would be exiting the on-highway CNG engine business effective December 31st, 2007.[1] The final order deadline for the sole remaining engine offering, the 6081H, was October 15, 2007.
