Lawton Area Transit System, or LATS, is the public transit provider for the city of Lawton, Oklahoma.

History

Lawton Area Transit System can trace its history to April 28th, 1975 when the city of Lawton created the City Transit Trust (CTT) to own, operate, manage, and finance public transit service on behalf of city government itself. It wasn't until Fall 2000 when transit service was approved for implementation. On February 13th, 2001, the CTT hired contractor McDonald Transit Associates to handle all aspects of operation and employment associated with the transit agency. To that end, McDonald Transit Associates created Lawton Transit Management, Inc., commonly known as the Lawton Area Transit System, in January 2002. Service presumably commenced on April 27th, 2002. The contractor for LATS has since changed to Hendrickson Transportation Group.
