Emergency vehicles were standing by the south runway of the airport after the Airbus 340 reported "some problem with the flap" at around 3:30 p.m., airport spokeswoman Kate Donegani told CBC News. The pilot of the CX839 plane detected a problem with one of the flaps at around 3:30 p.m. — about an hour after it took off from YVR Friday afternoon. The crew went into an emergency mode and the pilot started dumping fuel around Vancouver Island, Donegani said. The plane had been circling in the air and was scheduled to make an emergency landing at 4:45 p.m. Eventually, it landed safely just before 5 p.m. All the bridges leading to the airport have been reopened.
