My commutes

I live downtown and work in the Waste-Island boondocks, land of the nimbyes who don’t want transit because “it’s poor”, so the service to/from work is kinda sucky.

For example, I have to go on one commuter line, and come back on another; the schedules don’t jive otherwise.

But this can make for some artsy shots.

While I wait for my train at Vendôme, I can watch the sun try to shoo the clouds away:

Then I can watch deadhead trains kicking up leaves as they vanish in the yonder:

Then, the crews digging-up the old CP “Glen” coach-yard offer plenty of things to see, and on a clear day, you can see the USA (the mountains on the right are in Vermont):

Then my train arrives, and gleefully overshoots the platform:

When I arrive in Dorval, I go through the tunnel greenhouse, complete with sham bats for Hallow’een:

Then, I can try my luck taking pictures of turning buses:

Or do livery comparisons:

I also do bus arses comparisons, too:

And, finally, after some 15 minutes of waiting, my conveyance arrives. I have to ride this old yucky jalopy:

And after riding along ultra-scenic Lakeshore road (which makes it my favourite bus line), the highlight is when we pass above both the CP and CN mainlines:

I will spare you the walk through the shopping mall parking lot, and the bus ride from the office to the other station which looks gorgeous in the falling fall light:

Then, I shoot a passing train (not mine):

Play with the light and dark of the catenary, pantographs and train:

And finish with a blurry shot because the light is all but gone.

The three hours of commute kill me, but at least I’m not stuck in traffic (that’s why I pay $20 more for the train pass).

So, are your commutes as artsy as mine?

Very nice. Love the pics at Sunnybrooke as well as the shot of the CN/CP mainlines.

My commute sucks ass though... It's only in the afternoon though. morning, i get a lift.

Leave school, walk to Villa-Maria metro, take the metro to Cote-Vertu, probably miss the 268. Have to take the 64 with alot of people all packed into one bus. Arrive at Grenet/De Serres Terminus. Walk down Gouin for 10 minutes to get home...

If i feel like taking a longer but more pleasant way :

Walk to Vendome or take 124X to vendome. Take Blainville line to Bois-de-Boulogne. Immediately after catch the 135 bus and take it for 1 stop to Du Ruisseau station. At Du ruisseau, get on the Deux-Montagnes train and stay on until Roxboro-Pierrefonds, passing Bois-Franc where i would usually get off ( it's a 10 minute walk from my home). The ride to Roxboro is very nice, passing through the Nature Parks. At roxboro, take the 68 back east through the nature parks again and get off the Gouin/Laurentien. Walk home.

I much prefer the second option but it takes longer and i have to pay for a train ticket...

My Mon-Thurs commute consists of me being dropped off at Vendôme (because my sister has her stage in NDG and needs to take the 105) and taking the métro to Square-Victoria. Typically in the PM if I am rushing home, I take the métro from Square-Victoria to Du Collège and take the 214 to my stop.

On Fridays I usually have the car, so I typically park near an orange line station so that I don't have to suffer on the bus.

Next month I'll have a TRAM 3 at least (a TRAM 5 probably isn't worth it for me), so I'll see how I can play with my commute. I have yet to do a 747-209 commute home. I have commuted home without taking the métro whatsoever (427-467/67-121-216).
