  1. Everybody, for the sake of the board, can we please get back on track with the thread.

As for the GMs, there was none when I was last at Swansea so I have no idea why they haven't moved yet. I will keep you guys updated.

Have you checked bakermet? I know some end up there before swansea, depends on how bad baker's needs scrap metal

Wow, so neat to see that the old "GM Classic" emblem is still inside the bus when so many other buses had it removed...

Did you see where it said 'JUNK' below the fleet number? you can definately tell the drivers hate the 87s with a passion :)

  2. Seeing as we're best buddies, you should also include that every time I go to your house, you always talk cars to me lol

Dont forget about making fun of the suburbs, i lived there most of my life & hated it haha, making fun of our mayor, lying o'brian.. & biking lots in the summer, thats defiantely a lot better than riding the inveros..

    Heres a couple more facts..

I've been a car enthusiest long before i became a transit enthusiest.

I own two of the license plates off the four STO Orion IIs

I also have two big rollsigns, one OC & the other is STO, i also have the numbers too

  3. It's still nice to dream  I think trolleybusses are due for a comeback...

Oh yea, one day they'll be back..

Imagine a trolley bus Nova LFS....

I can picture it, it doesnt look too good though :)

A trolleybus network cannot have any hope of success in a suburb when the city immediately to the south rejects the possibility of this, has historically abandoned this mode, and isn't rushing toward it in the near future (trains, LRT, and the metro have a clear priority). I can't see this flying in Laval. Why don't we compare it to Mississauga so that our friends in Ontario get the idea. I'm not saying that major transit infrastructure should be limited to the island of Montreal but let's be realistic here people.

The STL can better serve its population by carefully observing its origin-destination surveys, identifying where people want to go and when. They should set up an express bus system serving certain sectors of Laval and bringing them directly to metro stations in Laval. Heavy duty routes can be served by articulated buses offering concentrated service in a grid network. These are options worth examining without jumping to trolleybus system. Or perhaps improving the train lined bringing people to Montreal and offer better waiting and parking facilities.

Trolleybuses in Laval? Isn't Laval laid out like Gatineau? I know if they were to put trolley buses around modern day Gatineau, they would be pointless seeing as it's so spread out.

The only real built up area of Gatineau I can think of is Hull and there is only 8,000 people living there out of a 300,000 city. I am a strong supporter of trolley buses but trolley buses in the suburbs, I just can't see that working out.

I'm not too fond of taking sides but both SMS & Wright have a good point. I'm not familliar with the Laval area but from what i have been reading its mostly suburbs, correct me if i'm wrong.. If Laval is really serious about running trolley buses, i can only see two routes, two very small ones, & one would be going to a suburb. If gatineau was going to get trolley buses, there would only be two routes three tops, one of which i can see being ran through the main road of alymer, loops around, then teminates at some point in hull, the other would be routed through central hull, if they were crazy enough they would put a third one in but it would be quite small. Even hull isnt big enough as-is for trolley buses..

The bottom line is trolley buses in the suburbs wouldnt work at all because

    1. the cost + if they had the funds its money that isnt well spent

    2. the residence in the suburbs would concider the overhead wires an 'eyesore' then complain too much

    3. routing the buses would be difficult as most suburbs have small narrow streets

    4. if they do come up with a route, parking laws would have to be made which will make the residence quite frustrated & complain more

The bottom line is, you need a big busy urban area to run trolley buses. Laval just doesnt look like it

  8. Its so easy to find a bus in Ottawa. Its called the transitway! Stand anywhere in the downtown transitway were you can see east and west action at the sametime during AM or PM rush and you'll have a picture of it. Don't waste your time looking for it one route at a time. Let it come to you... All you have to do is look at my Ottawa bus website to see that I speak the truth..

  9. The realities of owning an older vehicle in at least Ontario and Quebec if we had a climate like Arizona, rust is a non issue aside from accident damage. I've already spent $2300 replacing all fenders and eliminating all exterior rust. The worst thing is...if it rusts again finding parts for a 23 year old car is really difficult...when its say 33 years old, impossible might be the reality.

What kind of vehicle is it?

  10. No, I'm not going to go that far.. It costs way too much $$$

Give union auto a call, they're in ottawa but sell parts cheap, shipping is reasonable too. I used to work there, PM me for the number
