  1. I have been on the job now for about 6 months and sometimes find myself asking some if these questions still. Don't get me wrong I love the job. I really do. But I run into other operators who have been on the job a long time who just seem very tainted and angry. I have boiled it down to 2 basic possibilities, that person has always been that way or the job has gotten to them over time. There are still quite a few operators who have been here a long time that are just a pleasure to be around, so I'm going with option 1, the grumpy drivers have always been that way. The TTC probably was hiring on completely different criteria back then and found it didn't work, which is why they have switched to the more customer service oriented hire. I could be wrong. And if I am there are plenty of jobs within the TTC to switch to if I am.
  2. He should go to his shop steward and ask him what to do and explain the situation.
  3. Full rate is currently in the $31/hr range. The the starting/training rates are the same $24.06 The difference is during training you only get paid for 30 hours a week.
  4. During training you deal very little with the actual routes. You may drive them or parts of them but they were not a focus during training. You pick them up as you go and during divisional training as well as the 3 days following training (Route Familiarization)
  5. Seniority comes into play for a couple of things on a regular basis. Primarily, work selection is done in order of seniority. Your training start date is used to base your seniority off of. Most of the time this does mean that smaller badge numbers have more seniority but not always ( a 5 year Cleaner, becoming a Driver already has a badge number but his seniority is based off when he starts training to become a driver) I would say that seniority is based on how many people are above you. Which changes when people retire, quit or transfer in or out of your division or to different positions. So over time you will have more seniority.
  6. Like I said, I'm over three months into the job and I never received any letter from the MTO about medical clearance. Perhaps this is age dependant, the MTO does require a medical every so many years depending on our age. So maybe some people are getting this extra letter in the mail based on their age???
  7. I have been on the job now since March 4th and never did I receive this letter. From what I remember they ask for the 3 year driving abstract when you go to the information session and then you bring the same one with you for the face to face interview. After that they do ask you to get a new 3 year driving abstract when you show up to documentation. If your abstract only shows 1 speeding violation then I think you will be good. If they ask you directly about past events don't lie but most likely they won't. They could always do a full abstract at any time but most likely wont unless there is a reason do so. So again don't lie but also don't shoot yourself in the foot by over sharing.
  8. I would like to see the calc as well for the pension, could you share it here or a link.
  9. Union dues are $20.75 weekly. You are paid weekly too. There is an initial fee as well of $300, that is spread over 4 pays ($75 per pay). These come after 2 months.
  10. This is what I have heard about the pension; 1. It is based on your 4 highest paying years at the TTC 2. It is somewhere between 50-60% of those years. 3. Full pension is given after 30 years of service. 4. You can get the full pension with only 29 years of service if, your age and years of service equal 80. Any other light that can be shed on this would be great.
  11. I just started 3 months ago and the starting wage is $24.06 in two years it will $31 and change plus any increases negotiated by the union. They guarantee you 40 hours a week. But you will work more than that more likely 44. Shift premium for night work is $6 and premium for Sunday is time and a quarter. You can do the math.
  12. 10 a week for Bus. You are right there are more than 5 instructors. Bus training is 25 days meaning they have at least 25 bus instructors, plus a few extras I'm sure for re-certification and other things.
  13. I'm surprised they have already hired 350 Operators. I thought they were only hiring about 500 this year?? I guess a lot of those 350 haven't started training yet, because at this point they only have instructors to train about 10 a week. But it makes sense for them to slow the process down already.
  14. Anyone know if they will have training on Good Friday?? I don't mind doing it but just wanted to sort out the holiday if possible. Do they generally work the holidays for training?
  15. I went in for Documentation on Wednesday. Got Bus at Mount Dennis!! Anyone have any info about that division? How many operators, etc. My medical was November 13. So happy to finally get the call.
