XD40 #1811 on Mulock Drive on route 57A.

Service was operated by Newmarket Transit before YRT took over operations in 2001.

  • January 1, 2001 - On commencement of service by YRT, branch 55C of route 55 provided service along Mulock Drive, retaining the same number and routing as Newmarket Transit.
  • May 12, 2002 - New two-way service introduced on Sundays.
  • September 3, 2002 - Route is given it's own number and is changed from 55C to 57. New service is introduced during the weekday off-peak periods and Saturdays north on Leslie Street to Farr Avenue to serve the Sharon community.
  • September 5, 2004 - New service introduced on Sawmill Valley Drive and Stonehaven Avenue. Two branches are introduced: 57 and 57A.
    • Branch 57 will operate extended service in the west along Mulock Drive and Sawmill Valley Drive and loop in the east via Mulock Drive, Leslie Street, Stonehaven Avenue, and Bayview Avenue.
    • Branch 57A will operate between Newmarket GO Bus Terminal and Leslie Street/Stonehaven Avenue during peak hours, and between Green Lane via Upper Canada Mall and Yonge Street and 404 Town Centre via Leslie Street during off-peak hours. Branch 57A operates eastbound via Stonehaven Avenue and westbound via Mulock Drive. Service to Farr Avenue and the Sharon community is replaced with the new route 58.
  • 2005 - Route 57 was operating from Yonge/Savage to Stonehaven Avenue via Sawmill Valley Drive, while route 57A ran from Newmarket Terminal to 404 Town Centre via Yonge and Millard. Westbound buses on route 57 followed Bayview and Stonehaven to Leslie, and vice-versa for route 57A. Routes 57 and 57A were the only 2 branches of the same route (Routes 2 and 2A are considered different routes as they do not share the same name) to have different colours on the YRT route map. Both routes 57 and 57A had Monday to Saturday service, and Sunday service was handled by route 57A. Only select trips went north on Leslie, however, and used Bayview/Stonehaven to loop. 57A service west of Yonge was provided by route 66. It also had daily service.
  • March 27, 2005 - Route 57A was changed to operate two-way service along Mulock Drive. Eastbound 57A buses no longer operate via Bayview Avenue and Stonehaven Avenue.
  • September 5, 2005 - Route 57A was extended to service route 66's routing to Newmarket Terminal, replacing it entirely. At the same time, select route 57 trips turned into the new route 223 Newmarket GO Shuttle at Mulock and Sawmill Valley Dr., the terminus of route 223. PM route 223 buses also became route 57 trips.
  • April 27, 2008 - The western leg of route 57A, west of Sawmill Valley Dr., was cut to make room for the new route 53 Woodspring-Clearmeadow. This was a major hit to the ridership for route 57/57A, as it did not serve Newmarket Terminal anymore. However, route 57A was still interlined with route 53 on Sundays, keeping the same arrangement as before the split.
  • August 31, 2008 - Sunday service was cut back from Weston Produce and Sawmill Valley Dr, and buses switched routes at Yonge/Mulock.
  • July 1, 2012 - Major changes were made to both branches of the route. New two-way service is introduced on Stonehaven Avenue, however, service on the Stonehaven branch is reduced to operate during weekday rush hours only. The western-end of the route is modified to incorporate the routing of the old southern portion of the former route 53 to Newmarket GO Bus Terminal. As a result, the route is renamed from "Mulock" to "Clearmeadow-Mulock"
  • December 2012 - Routes 57 and 57A were declared fully accessible in December 2012.
  • June 30, 2013 - The route was renamed from "Clearmeadow-Mulock" back to "Mulock".
  • April 20, 2014 - As proposed in the 2014 Annual Service Plan, all service after 11:00pm on weekdays is eliminated.
  • April 5, 2020 - Branch 57 via Stonehaven is temporarily suspended due to lower ridership from the COVID-19 pandemic. Branch 57A via Mulock continues to operate.
  • September 5, 2021 - The designations for branches 57/57A are swapped. Branch 57 now operates via Mulock Drive and 57A operates via Stonehaven Avenue. Branch 57A via Stonehaven continues to be temporarily suspended due to COVID service reductions.
  • September 3, 2023 - YRT announced that the 57A branch will permanently not be returning to service since being suspended in April 2020, along with several other routes that were temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 Pandemic.[1]

Route 57 sees a mix of 30ft service provided by E-Z Rider II BRT/MAX and 40ft service provided by New Flyer D40LF and New Flyer XD40.
