These buses were ordered to replace 1986-1988 Flxible Metro A and B units (namely the [[Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 8700-8774, 8800-8874|8700-8774, 8800-8874]], [[Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 8775-8799, 8875-8925|8775-8799, 8875-8925]], [[Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 8950-8970|8950-8970]], [[Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 8971-8975|8971-8975]], [[Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 9201-9239|9201-9239]], [[Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 9251-9275|9251-9275]], and [[Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 9276-9289|9276-9289]] series).
They received a mid-life refurbishment between 2014 and 2015, including being repainted into the new local scheme.
Retirement began in early 2021, and retired in June 2021, being replaced by [[Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 4500-4598|4500-4598]]. ===Allocations===
Original allocations were set between Landover (6001-6014) and Montgomery (6015-6039). In September 2012, 6015 was moved to Landover. In March 2021, some units from Landover (6010, 6012, and 6013) were moved to Montgomery as a reserve fleet. In June 2021, 6012 and 6013 were briefly moved to Western before retirement.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority 6001-6039 were 2006 New Flyer DE40LF buses.

History

These buses were ordered to replace 1986-1988 Flxible Metro A and B units (namely the 8700-8774, 8800-8874, 8775-8799, 8875-8925, 8950-8970, 8971-8975, 9201-9239, 9251-9275, and 9276-9289 series).

They received a mid-life refurbishment between 2014 and 2015, including being repainted into the new local scheme.

Retirement began in early 2021, and retired in June 2021, being replaced by 4500-4598. A few buses were set up for auction in March 2022.[1]

Allocations

Original allocations were set between Landover (6001-6014) and Montgomery (6015-6039). In September 2012, 6015 was moved to Landover. In March 2021, some units from Landover (6010, 6012, and 6013) were moved to Montgomery as a reserve fleet. In June 2021, 6012 and 6013 were briefly moved to Western before retirement.
