Mr. Linsky
Pictured just south of the American Export Lines Hudson River Pier 84 at Manhattan's 42nd. Street, we see fleet # 2723 - a 1948 GM TDH 4507 and one of eighty-three likenesses purchased in increments between 1947 and 1948 operating for the New York City Omnibus Corporation division of the Chicago based Omnibus Corporation. The photo was probably taken sometime in the early fifties as evidenced by # 2723's lack of directional signals which were installed by mandate in the mid fifties along with a change to sealed beam headlights on the Surface Transportation 4507 standing next to it. By far, the GM TDH 4507 was the most popular bus that ever trundled the streets of New York City and when you combine those operating for the City of New York, Surface Transportation, Fifth Avenue Coach and its affiliates, Green Bus Lines, Triboro Coach and Steinway Omnibus they totaled fully one third of the 3,045 4507's produced. # 2723's driver is in short respite while awaiting his next crosstown run to First Avenue.
