Inlet Centre is a SkyTrain station in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Station Details

Inlet Centre is located on the Port Moody side of St. Johns Street and is located adjacent to the Port Moody - Coquitlam municipal boundary. During the planning stage, the station was known as Ioco, a reference to the adjacent Ioco Road and to the Ioco (Imperial Oil Company) townsite built at the northern end of Ioco Road (the station is located at the southern end of Ioco Road).

The station is built under the Barnet Highway overpass and during construction, the bridge was closed for a short period to allow construction workers to use hydraulic jacks to push the frame of the station and prefabricated platforms into the area below the bridge on a slope.

The entrances serve the two sides of St. Johns Street, making it easier for passengers to avoid crossing at the busy intersection next to the station. Inside, passengers can distinguish which side of the station they're at and which entrance the exit leads to based on the colours of the tiling motif on the wall: blue for the south side and green for the north side. Passengers with a Compass Card may use the station as an underpass to cross St. Johns Street or Barnet Highway instead of using the pedestrian signal at street level. Passengers are to make the journey within 21 minutes before they are charged.

Inlet Centre was designed by Francl Architecture[1] and coloured tiling work was done by Interstyle Glass and installed by Apex Tile & Granite Inc.[2] Initially, a glass tile mosaic was to cover a wall, but a mosaic using porcelain tiles that were already being installed was used instead. The mosaic is made up of either 3 shades of green or 3 shades of blue, depending on the end of the station.

Public Art

There are three permanent public art displays at Inlet Centre. The first is located outside in front of the south entrance titled Moraine Train by Hapa Collaborative landscape architects. The work features boulders that were salvaged from station construction. The boulders were recovered from sediments deposited from the last Ice Age and are arranged in the plaza to allow for seating.[3]

The second piece is titled Evergreen People by Alberto Cerritos, Rosalina Cerritos and Jaime Torres. The sculpture represents inclusivity and is located outside in front of the north entrance.[4]

The last piece is located inside the north concourse titled Mother & Child on a Bike by Parvaneh Roudgar. The sculpture symbolizes the happy and quiet moments families enjoy while visiting parks.[5] This was the last art display to be completed on the Evergreen Extension, with installation done on January 13, 2017.[6]
