'''[[Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation]] 4001-4023''' are 2020 [[New Flyer Industries]] [[New Flyer Industries XD60|XD60]] buses built and delivered in 2021. These are the first New Flyer buses purchased new and the first [[Articulated Bus|articulated buses]] purchased by SMART since 2009 when [[Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation 3001-3002|3001-3002]] were ordered. In August 2020, SMART negotiated with New Flyer for the delivery of 23 60-foot articulated buses for 2021 delivery, piggybacked from a Commonwealth of Virginia order.<ref>[https://www.smartbus.org/Portals/0/SMART%20BOD%20August%202020%20Board%20Packet.pdf Board of Directors  Meeting - August 27, 2020], Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation, retrieved April 10, 2021</ref> The articulated buses would allow SMART the ability to social distance on the busiest routes during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to accommodate increased ridership following the pandemic.

The buses were delivered on April 5, 2021 and began entering service on June 30, 2021.
