The Seattle Center Monorail is a monorail line running between Westlake Center in downtown Seattle and the Seattle Center. The line was first built for the world's fair in 1962, and continues to run today using the original trains. The monorail is owned by the city of Seattle and operated by a private company, Seattle Monorail Services.
Route
The Monorail follows a 0.9 mile route between the Seattle Center and Westlake Center. The Seattle Center station is located just north of the Space Needle. The line passes through the building of the Museum of Pop Culture, then follows 5th Avenue south to Westlake Station on elevated tracks.
Fleet
The Seattle Center Monorail has a fleet of two trains. Each train runs on a dedicated track and there are no switches on the line. Trains park at the Seattle Center station when not in service. Typically only one train is in use at a time, though both trains can be run at the same time, transporting up to 6,000 passengers per hour.
