The DPB was founded in 1895, which was the first year of public transportation in Bratislava, then known as Pressburg.

Current fleet roster

As of February 2015, the DPB has 243 streetcars, 178 trolley buses and 482 buses in its active fleet. All vehicles are equipped with digital destination signs manufactured by BUSE, and a majority of the fleet has automated announcements.

Buses

The DPB operates a total of 499 buses, operating out of three divisions. Buses are numbered according to the division they operate out of - the 1000 series buses operate out of Trnávka, the 2000 series buses operate out of its next door neighbor Jurajov dvor, and the 4000 series buses operate out of Petržalka. A fourth division, Krasnany operated until its cancellation on September 1, 2011, and its buses were numbered in the 3000 series. Following Krasňany's cancellation, its buses were distributed among the other three divisions, and the movements resulted in the remaining 1000 series CNG buses (Karosas and Solarises) moving from Trnávka to Jurajov dvor. While these buses didn't get renumbered, a number of them received a fifth digit at the end of their fleet numbers indicating the garage that they were now based out of. This practice was later dropped.

While the earlier movements of the Irisbus Citelis 12M to Petržalka from Trnávka were renumbered, this was later stopped as well, and the most recent movements (from June 2013 onwards) retain their original fleet numbers.
