50 Waterfront Station/False Creek South is a bus route operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Route Details
This is a north-south route connecting Chinatown and Gastown with Olympic Village Station via Waterfront Station and Granville Island. It is a Frequent Transit Network (FTN) route providing service 15 minutes or better, 15 hours or more of the day, seven days a week. From June to September, service on weekends and holidays in the afternoons is increased from every 15 minutes to every 12 minutes.
Northbound trips come off a 15 Olympic Village Station and depart from Olympic Village Station heading west on W. 6th Avenue and north on Moberly Road to Heather Square. Continuing from Heather Square, trips head west on Charleston becoming Lameys Mill Road, west on W. 2nd Avenue, south on Fir Street, east on W. 4th Avenue, west on W. 5th Avenue, north on Granville Street and across the Granville Street Bridge. Continuing on Granville Street, trips continue north, east on W. Cordova Street, south on Cambie Street, east on W. Pender Street, south on Abbott Street, and east on Keefer Place to Keefer Place & Taylor Street.
Southbound trips depart from Keefer Place & Taylor Street heading east on Keefer Place, north on Columbia Street, west on E. Hastings Street, north on Seymour Street, west on W. Cordova Street, and south on Granville Street and across the Granville Street Bridge. Trips exit the Granville Street Bridge heading west on West Cloverleaf, north on Fir Street, east on W. 2nd Avenue becoming Lameys Mill Road and Charleston to Heather Square. Continuing from Heather Square trips head south on Moberly Road and east on W. 6th Avenue to Olympic Village Station where trips continue as 15 Cambie.
On Fridays, weekends/holidays, and days preceding holidays after 9 p.m., there is no service on Granville Street. Northbound trips use Seymour Street and southbound trips use Howe Street.

History
- November 1976 - Service introduced to connect the first stage of the southern False Creek redevelopment with downtown, running every 30 minutes from Willow & Broadway to Cordova & Granville via Heather Square and Sitka Square[1]
- December 1979 - Service revised to take Lamey's Mill Road through to Granville Island to route onto Granville Street following completion of road access and residential developments; service along 6th Avenue between Oak Street and Granville Street and looping at Sitka Square discontinued[2]
- April 1981 - Downtown terminus moved from Granville & Cordova at Waterfront Station to Powell & Columbia, introducing service through Gastown[3]
- May 1984 - Destination sign simplification: Service renamed from 50 False Creek South to 50 Gastown/False Creek South[4]
- June 1989 - False Creek South-bound weekday service before 9 a.m. revised to layover at Waterfront Station to improve connections with the SeaBus[5]
- October 1990 - Accessible service introduced[6]
- April 1994 - Daytime service Monday–Saturday to Gastown discontinued with service transferred to route 1 Beach/Gastown[7]
- April 1996 - All trips made low floor and accessible[8]
- September 2000 - Waterfront Station terminus moved to Keefer Street & Taylor Street to accommodate for the 98 B-Line;[9] operations transferred to Oakridge Transit Centre from Burnaby Transit Centre
- April 2001 - Cancellation of the 51 Granville Island results in the 50 becoming the primary bus connection to Granville Island.[10] Sunday/holiday daytime service increased from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes, resulting in consistent daytime 15-minute service seven days a week
- April 2006 - Diverted to Howe, Nelson, Granville (Southbound) and Granville, Robson, Seymour (Northbound) due to the construction of the Canada Line
- September 2006 - Burnaby Transit Centre resumes operations of the peak hour trippers
- September 2009 - Route returns to Cambie Street between W. 6th Avenue and Broadway instead of routing via Yukon Street with the end of Canada Line construction
- December 2009 - Service returns to Granville Mall in Downtown Vancouver with the completion of the Canada Line.[11] Evening layover after 10 p.m. daily revised to Waterfront Station instead of Keefer Street & Taylor Street to address operator safety
- January 19–March 2, 2010 - Vancouver 2010 Olympic service: Routing revised to use Seymour on northbound trips and Howe on southbound trips instead of Granville Street and use Pender Street instead of Keefer Street between Abbott and Columbia due to downtown pedestrian corridors and BC Place & Canada Hockey Place venue security zones[12]
- April 2010 - Route revised for when Granville Street between Nelson and Robson is closed for increased pedestrian access to the entertainment district; northbound service to route by Granville Bridge onto Seymour until Cordova and southbound service to run from Howe Street until Granville Bridge[13]
- April 2011 - False Creek South terminus shortened from Broadway & Willow Street to Olympic Village Station as service is revised to interline with the 15 Cambie/Olympic Village Station. Service on Cambie Street, W. Broadway, and Willow Street discontinued[14]
- April 24–May 14, 2020 - Service suspended as part of cost-saving measures due to low ridership relating to the COVID-19 pandemic[15]
- February 26, 2024 - Southbound trips revised to bypass Gastown due to the closure of Water Street and Powell Street for water main works and the trial pedestrianization of Water Street. Routing from Keefer & Taylor revised to go via Keefer Place, Columbia Street, E. Hastings Street, Seymour Street, W. Cordova Street, and then the regular route. Change is expected to last until September 2, 2024
- March 4, 2024 - Long-term detour in downtown due to construction on the north end of the Granville Street Bridge
- Northbound via regular route to Granville Street Bridge, then north on Seymour Street off-ramp, west on Davie Street, and north on Granville Street
- Southbound via regular route to Granville Street, then west on Davie Street, and south on Howe Street merging onto the Granville Street Bridge
