History

Foothill's last order of high-floor buses was first announced in August 2002 when they displayed the first Orion CNG buses with the refueling station at the Pomona facility at the end of July 2002; the order of transit-configured Orion initially had 43 units until mid-February 2003 when they later received a $1.5 million grant from the federal government to accelerate the process of completely replacing their existing diesel fleet with CNG, allowing them to put 8 additional buses onto the existing order.

All units were first delivered to Pomona under First Transit (later Keolis) as Irwindale did not have a CNG refueling station until late 2004-early 2005; select units later transferred to Irwindale under MV Transportation and then Transdev until retirement. They ran mostly on local routes, featuring a standard transit interior seating compared to the earlier 2002 Orion V buses, which had a suburban interior arrangement.

The first units were replaced by the 2014 NABI 42-BRT CNG buses (F2200-F2229); two units from this series were bought by Nassau Inter-County Express, reversing an earlier stance about selling their buses only within Los Angeles County, as demonstrated with their old 1994-1995 Gillig Phantom diesels. The remaining units from this fleet were removed by the 2015-2016 New Flyer XN40 buses.
