York Region Transit Southeast Division

YRT Southeast Division is one of four YRT operational divisions. This division covers the majority of routes in Markham, Richmond Hill, and Whitchurch-Stouffville, with some routes extending into Aurora, Newmarket, Toronto, and Vaughan.

Southeast Division is operated under contract by Miller Transit.

History

Southeast Division was initially comprised of the former operations of Markham Transit, which was contracted to Miller Transit. Service was operated out of a contractor-owned property on Burncrest Road west of Woodbine Avenue. In 2003, Miller Transit was awarded the contract for Richmond Hill operations after the contract with Pacific Western was not renewed; this was combined with the existing Markham operations out of the Burncrest Road facility.

A new operations contract for the consolidated BRT-East Division was awarded to Miller Transit, effective July 1, 2023. This contract administratively merged the Southeast Division with BRT Division. Southeast operations are expected to move into the existing Region-owned facility on Orlando Avenue in Richmond Hill in late 2023, following the completion of construction to expand the facility.
