Valley Metro (Roanoke)

Greater Roanoke Transit Company or known as Valley Metro operates transit service to the independent cities of Roanoke and Salem, the town of Vinton, and some unincorporated portions of Roanoke County, Virginia. It is operated by First Transit.

History

Valley Metro traces its history back to Roanoke City Lines, a private company which had previously been running public transit in Roanoke, VA. In 1975, the decision to take Roanoke City Lines public was made, thus creating Valley Metro that same year. Organizationally, Valley Metro is a non-profit public service organization owned by the City of Roanoke.
