VIA Rail Canada is a Crown entity charged with providing and maintaining passenger rail service across Canada.

It is not a Crown Corporation, and therefore is incapable of sourcing funding outside of its yearly grants from the Federal Government.

VIA uses the same 480Vac (500Vac nominal) HEP system as Amtrak, however VIA's is a two-sided system, with two separate HEP buses in each car.
