This community bus route serves the neighbourhood of East York. It runs from the Beaches at Queen Street East & Wineva Avenue to Coxwell Station. Along its route, it serves many apartment buildings and places that senior citizens and disabled passengers frequent including Beaches Library, Beach Arms Retirement Residence, True Davidson Acres, East York Acres, Stan Wadlow Park Clubhouse, East York Civic Centre, Toronto East General Hospital, and Shoppers World Plaza. Route 404 connects to the subway system at Victoria Park Station and Coxwell Station.
- June 22, 1992 - Following a successful community bus service experiment with the Lawrence Manor route, community bus service is expanded. Service begins on the new 404 East York route.
- September 5, 2017 - A nine-month pilot project was launched where the route was extended west to Coxwell Station, south to Queen Street and Wineva Avenue, and north along Dawes Road to St Clair Avenue East. Frequency is increased to every 60 minuntes.
