Royal York Station is a rapid transit station and bus terminal operated by the Toronto Transit Commission in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 955 Royal York Road, on the east side of Royal York Road just north of Bloor Street West.
History
Royal York Station was opened on May 11, 1968 when the Bloor-Danforth subway line was further extended west from Keele Station to Islington Station in Etobicoke.
On December 16, 2019, Royal York Station was declared the TTC's 46th accessible station with the opening of three new elevators providing barrier-free access from street level to the subway platforms. The elevators were constructed under the TTC's Easier Access Program. In addition to the new elevators, improvements such as accessible fare gates, automatic sliding doors at the main entrance, improved signage, CCTV cameras, and a complete resurface of the bus terminal roadway were also completed.[1]
Station description
The station architecture is comprised of three levels: street entrance level, an underground concourse level, and platform level.
The main entrance for the station is located on the east side of Royal York Road, just north of Bloor Street West. The collector's booth and fare-paid line is located just inside the main entrance. Inside the fare-paid area of the station concourse, there is a bus terminal waiting area and a wraparound bus loop. There are stairs and escalators that lead down to an underground concourse level and to the side platforms at platform level. The station automatic entrance is located on the west side of Grenview Boulevard North and has stairs that lead directly to the east-end of the subway platforms.
Connections to the 300 Bloor-Danforth and 315 Evans-Brown's Line night buses can be made at the bus stops at the intersection of Bloor Street West and Royal York Road. All other routes stop inside the bus terminal.
