Kipling Station SmallAccessible.gif is a rapid transit terminal station and bus terminal operated by the Toronto Transit Commission. It is located at 950 Kipling Avenue, situated on the south side of St. Albans Road, just west of Kipling Avenue.

History

Prior to 1980s, Islington Station was the terminus for all Line 2 Bloor-Danforth subways until the city decided to extend the line to Kipling Station. When the extension was first opened, the first train to ever enter the station was a Hawker Siddeley H5 subway with the experimental high-visibility colours that was painted on the front of the train. An official ceremony was held for the opening of the new extension.

Station description

This station architecture consists of 4 levels: bus terminal level, street entrance level, concourse level, and platform level. There are 5 station entrances in total. Entrances include the Aukland entrance located southwest of the station, the St. Albans Road entrance underneath the Kipling Avenue overpass, the stairway entrance on Subway Crescent beside the west parking lot, the station pick-up and drop-off entrance, and the GO Station/GO parking lot entrance. Concourse level can be accessed from any of the station entrances. Bus terminal level has access to the washrooms and has stairs, escalators and an elevator that lead to platform level.

Connections to all buses that serve Kipling station can be accessed from the station bus terminal. Kipling GO Station can be accessed from the walkway located at the western end of the bus terminal building.

With the opening of Kennedy Station and Kipling Station, it was planned to further extend service eastward to Scarborough Town Centre and westward towards Etobicoke using light rail trains. The extension to Scarborough Town Centre was approved with the opening of the Line 3 Scarborough, however, the Etobicoke light rail plan was not seen as a viable transit extension and was abandoned. All that is left of the proposed and abandoned Etobicoke light rail line is the concrete shell of the trackbed which is visible from the windows on the south side of the bus terminal building.
