Toronto Transit Commission 4000-4139
Toronto Transit Commission 4000-4139 were 1938 CC&F PCC A-1 class air-electric streetcars, built new for the TTC. Their body shells were built by St. Louis Car Company in the US, and finished by CC&F in Montreal. This group was the first order of PCC cars made by the TTC.
Most of this series were retired in the mid-1960's with the opening of the new Bloor-Danforth subway line. Many of the retired cars were part of a group sold to Alexandria, Egypt, and others were eventually scrapped. Car 4000 was kept around as a training car, and eventually donated to the Ontario Electric Railway Historical Association for preservation in 1969. Today it resides at the Halton County Radial Railway, and is the only car of this series (and the only one of TTC's early air-electric PCC cars) to be preserved.
