The Interurban Transit Partnership or The Rapid operates public transit in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It also serves East Grand Rapids, Grandville, Kentwood, Walker, Wyoming, Alpine Township, Byron Township, Gaines Township and Grand Rapids Township.
History
The system was formed by the City of Grand Rapids in 1963 as the Grand Rapids Transit Authority. It became a regional authority in July 1978 and was renamed the Grand Rapids Area Transit Authority (GRATA). The Interurban Transit Partnership was formed in January 2000 and adopted the name The Rapid.
In August 2014, The Rapid launched Michigan's first bus rapid transit (BRT) route. The Silver Line operates on South Division Avenue south from downtown Grand Rapids.
