Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation 4001-4023

Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation 4001-4023 are 2020 New Flyer Industries XD60 buses built and delivered in 2021. These are the first New Flyer buses purchased new and the first articulated buses purchased by SMART since 2009 when 3001-3002 were ordered. In August 2020, SMART negotiated with New Flyer for the delivery of 23 60-foot articulated buses for 2021 delivery, piggybacked from a Commonwealth of Virginia order. The articulated buses would allow SMART the ability to social distance on the busiest routes during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to accommodate increased ridership following the pandemic.

The buses were delivered on April 5, 2021 and began entering service on June 30, 2021.
