'''[[Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation]] 3601-3659''' are 2016 bio-diesel [[Gillig]] [[Gillig BRT|BRT (G27D102N4)]] buses. They were purchased through a piggyback agreement with [[Metro Regional Transit Authority]] in Akron, Ohio. They were scheduled for delivery starting in June 2016, however, they were delivered starting a month early for unknown reasons. This series also returned to the usage of the first two digits of the fleet number to reflect the year in which the vehicle was delivered (albeit with a 3 instead of a 1).

The first unit to enter service was 3601 on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, when it was placed in service operating the final Detroit-bound [[Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation route 805 'Grand River Park & Ride'|route 805]] run for that morning, and later that day operated the second afternoon Trenton-bound [[Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation route 830 'Downriver Park & Ride'|route 830]] run. By September 20, 2016, all vehicles in this series had entered service.

Upon entering service, they retired all remaining units from the [[Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation 23358-23387|23358-23387]] series, as well as a few units from the [[Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation 22301-22348, 22416-22460|22301-22348, 22416-22460]], [[Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation 22349-22415|22349-22415]], and [[Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation 23301-23357|23301-23357]] orders. They also transferred multiple buses from the aforementioned orders (22301-22460 and 23301-23357) between each of the three terminals, in selected cases these transfers were permanent.
