560 Bellevue/SeaTac Airport/West Seattle is an express bus route operated by Sound Transit in the Puget Sound area of Washington State. This route is operated by Pierce Transit under contract[1].

Route Details

Current routing of 560 as of October 2010

This north-south express bus route runs between Bellevue and West Seattle via Kent, Renton and Newport Hills. Normal service runs half hourly on weekdays and hourly on weekends and holidays. This route differs from other Sound Transit bus routes as it operates exclusively on arterial streets[2].

The 2011 Draft Service Implementation Plan tabled the cancellation of service between Burien Transit Center and West Seattle Junction except during peak hour service[3].

History

  • September 1999 - Route was created with service provide from 560 Bellevue - Seatac Express [4]
  • September 2003 - Route was made the way it is today by merging routes 570 Westside Express and the old 560 Bellevue-SeaTac Express[2]
  • February 2010 - Weekday midday service reduced to every 60 minutes and Wilburton Park & Ride stop discontinued[2]
  • September 2013 - Pierce Transit took over the operation and maintenance of buses on the route from King County Metro. [5]

Service vehicles include Gillig Phantom Wc15.JPG, Gillig Low Floor 40' Wc15.JPG and Gillig Low Floor 40' HEV Wc15.JPG buses. Rarely, service this route New Flyer Industries XD60 Wc15.JPG, and New Flyer Industries XDE60 Wc15.JPG buses.
