Société des traversiers du Québec (Québec Ferry Corporation), abbreviated STQ, is the crown corporation responsible of operating major or essential ferry links across the province of Québec. The ministry of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Transport Electrification is responsible of the maritime corporation.
History
STQ was founded in 1971, when the government of Québec took over the exploitation and ships of the Québec-Lévis ferry. Over the years, it took over the exploitation and management of many routes, as well as former federally-maintained docks. In 2009, the STQ took over the management of the Gaspésie, Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Bas-Saint-Laurent and lower Côte-Nord routes, adding thousands of nautical miles to its portfolio.
