San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority

The San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority or RTA is the transit operator in San Luis Obispo County, California which include the cities of Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, El Paso de Robles, Grover Beach, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, and San Luis Obispo. RTA also administrates and operates South County Transit (SoCo Transit or SCT), formerly South County Area Transit.

History

RTA was once part of San Luis Obispo Transit, which at the time was operated by the City & County of San Luis Obispo all as one agency. When the city & county split operations in the mid-1980's, the city retained SLO Transit, the central county ran Central Coast Area Transit (CCAT), and the southern county ran South County Area Transit (SCAT). The CCAT & SCAT names were dropped circa 2003 when being re-branded as RTA. However, SoCo Transit (South County) remains as a separate joint powers authority in a contractual relationship with RTA.
