  • 8101 was a 2000 model built in 1999.
  • The majority of the 8100's had their engine cooling fans retrofitted 2 times in 2000-2001 due to noise complaints. Later units delivered did not have cooling fan issues.
  • 25 units were rehabbed in 2010-2011.
  • 50 units were rehabbed in 2013.
  • Some units began to transfer to Islais Creek in August 2016 and from December 2016 to 2018 for training use & reserve fleet.
  • Currently being retired, starting in summer 2016.
    • 50 units remain in service/for training, (5 non-rehabs, 2 2010/2011 rehabs, 43 2013 rehabs). Note, a couple of unconfirmed units have retired.
  • 8101 was bought by a private owner.
  • 8136 caught on fire on 5/11/2017 and retired.
  • 8173 caught on fire and was destroyed on 6/4/2002.[2] It was stored at Islais Creek circa mid-2005 and was scrapped by January 2011.
  • 8120 & 8225 were involved in accidents in fall 2018 and retired.
  • 8219 was damaged in an accident on 1/3/2017 and retired shortly after.

  • Originally powered by Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engines.
  • 2801 was built in 1992.
  • All units retired by 2013; auctioned off in 2013-2015.
    • 2809, 2813, 2815 & 2836 retired in 2008-2009 and were scrapped.
  • 2840 was preserved by MUNI. However it became a new (mechanic?) training bus in April 2018 and was stripped of its NX logos.
  • 13 units were donated to various organizations in 2014-2015.
    • 2802, 2807 & 2812 to Five Keys Charter School. They were converted into classrooms by Complete Coach Works and were completed by 2017.[5]
    • 2818 & 2829 to FLEETEDU in San Leandro, CA.[6][7][8] They were later listed on Craigslist in June 2015.
    • 2822, 2826, 2831 & 2844 to Lava Mae.
    • 2834 to Delancey Street Foundation in Montebello, CA
    • 2837, 2839 & 2841 to Delancey Street Foundation in SF.

  • Units refurbished by Dickenson were renumbered in the 3500-3600 series in 1983-1984.
    • Originally when being renumbered after rehab, 400 was added to the original fleet numbers. For example, 3005 became 3405. However due to large gaps in fleet numbers, they were renumbered in the order of when they were rehabbed (starting with 3501 as rehab #1 and ending with 3649 as rehab #149).
  • Non-rehabbed units retired in 1984-1985 & 1989. Rehabbed units all retired by May 1994.
  • 3626 (ex 3000) was bought by Loren Joplin/Dreamliner Bus Leasing & Service. It was later sold to various private owners.
  • 3004 was bought by Green Tortoise.
  • 3057's front end was replaced with a rebuilt 1963 TDH-5303 front end from Ex-NYCTA 3816 after an accident.[9][10]
  • 3112 was damaged during delivery and was replaced with a 2nd 3112. The original 3112 was rebuilt and returned to MUNI as 3390.
  • 3153 was rehabbed in-house by MUNI. It was retrofitted with an air starter (along with other rehabs). It was bought by a private owner and was used on the TV show Nash Bridges. It later sat in Williams, CA, before being acquired by 2nd private owner circa 2016.

  • 3265, 3272, 3277 & 3307 tested the EIP (Environmental Improvement Program) exhaust package.
  • Units refurbished by Dickenson were renumbered in the 3500-3600 series in 1983-1984.

  • 3209's front end was replaced with a rebuilt 1963 TDH-5303 front end from Ex-NYCTA 3630? after an accident.[11] It sported a different version of the Muni Landor paint after being repaired. It retired in 1985, sold and was driven to Tijuana, Mexico.
  • 3210 was the USA bicentennial bus and sported a patriotic inspired Landor livery in 1976. It was bought by a private owner in 1989, preserved and repainted back into the bicentennial scheme.
  • 3226 was bought by Loren Joplin/Dreamliner Bus Leasing & Service in 1989. It was later sold to a private owner in Southern California.
  • 3640 (ex 3245) was donated to the SF Police Department circa 1992. It was auctioned off as a non-runner circa 2005.
  • 3270 is preserved by the Pacific Bus Museum.
  • 3287 is preserved by MUNI.
  • 3552 (ex 3387) was donated to the SF Police Department and was converted into a mobile command center. It was stored at Marin Division upon retirement from SFPD and was auctioned off as a non-runner in the early 2000's.
  • 3590 (ex 3128) was bought & owned by various owners after retirement. It is currently owned by Loren Joplin/Dreamliner Bus Leasing & Service and is for sale.[12]

  • Ex 3112 (1st).
  • Tested the EIP (Environmental Improvement Program) exhaust package.
  • Used a hand parking brake instead of a standard air parking brake. It also used disc brakes.
4000-4009 1969 Flxible 111CC-C3-D0 Cummins V903 Spicer 183 ? 4009 was repowered with a Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engine and an Allison HT-747 transmission circa 1984. It is preserved by MUNI.

  • Retired in 1984-1985 due to frame defects and lack of maintenance. They were sold off/scrapped circa 1986-1987.[13]
  • 2 units were spotted running in South Lake Tahoe around the 1990's. They were eventually scrapped.
  • 1 unit was bought by Sacramento Capital Bus Sales.[14]
  • 4054 was at Hausman Bus Sales without a powertrain. It was almost purchased by a private owner to give back to MUNI, but it was turned down and eventually scrapped.

  • 4154 is preserved by MUNI.
  • 4100 was originally bought by a private owner and later donated it to Pacific Bus Museum; it was then sold off to another owner.
  • 4109 & 4154 were repowered in 1984.
  • 4151 is currently part of Ralph Cantos's "Comatose Bus Collection" (taken over by Egon Kafka) in Fontana, CA, where it sits in a non-operational state.[15]
  • 4190 was retrofitted with a wheelchair lift.
  • 4195 was converted into an RV and is in Williams, CA.
  • 1 unit was chopped down to 30 feet after retirement and was in Williams, CA. It was eventually scrapped.
  • 2 units were said to have been spotted in a field near Pleasant Grove, CA at an unknown time.

  • 4500-4569's VIN's were Flyer 1983 serials, 4570-4637 were 1984 models & 4638-4679 were 1985 models.
  • Retired in 2000-2003.
  • 4518 & 4565 were bought by Universal Studios and were used on the TV show, House. They were eventually scrapped after 2008.[16]
  • 4521? was donated to the SF Police Department in 2000 for terrorist drill training use. However it was used for target practice and shot up.[17]
  • 4533 was donated to the SF Police Department. It was stored at Islais Creek in 2009 with 8173 & 9110 upon retirement from SFPD and was scrapped by January 2011.[18][19]
  • 4574 was damaged while being delivered. It was used for parts once it arrived at MUNI and was replaced by a second 4574.
  • 4639 was bought by a private owner and was sold to Scott Richards/Regional Transit Service in 2003. It eventually returned to the original private owner and its fate remained unknown afterward.[20]
  • 1 unit (4??5) was spotted possibly in Central America.[21]
  • Some units were spotted in Tijuana, Mexico.

  • 6020 was bought by a private owner in 2002 for The Nautilus X Project. It is commonly seen at the Burning Man.
  • 6036, 6090 & 6098 were bought by a private owner along with Scott Richards/Regional Transit Service in 2002.
    • 6036 & 6098 were scrapped.
    • 6090 was sold to various private owners. Its current owner uses it as The PlayaPillar Bus at the Burning Man[22], however it is currently stored at Smith & Tobey 24 hr Towing due to engine problems.
  • 6082 was totaled in an accident and was replaced by a second 6082 in 1985.
  • 6089 was repowered with a custom built Sierra-Detroit Diesel 6L71TA engine in the 1990's. It was used as a test bus for the MAN engine repowering program and more engines were ordered. However, the other units were never repowered and the engines were auctioned off.
  • 6099 is preserved by MUNI.

    • 6253 received LED headlights and was retrofitted with an electric cooling fan.
  • Roughly 6236-6299 transferred to Islais Creek from late 2015 to May 2016. More units began to transfer in October 2016. All remaining units transferred by January 2017.
  • Retired from December 2015 to October 2018.
  • 6221 & 6292 were bought by a private owner/Bauer's.
  • 6231 & 6250 were bought by private owners.
  • 6265 was bought by a private owner along with 6420 and driven to Oakland, CA. It was listed on Craigslist in November 2017.[23]
  • 6238 was set on fire during the 2012 SF Giants World Championship celebration and retired.
  • 6244 caught on fire on 9/8/2015 and retired.
  • 6253 was damaged in an accident in October 2017 and retired.

    • 8023 & 8045 were bought by salvage yards.
    • 8025's, 8036's & 8039's fates remain unknown, but were likely scrapped.
  • 8002, 8005, 8006, 8010, 8020, 8029, 8037, 8038 & 8043 were retired & auctioned off throughout 2014.
    • 8002, 8006 & 8020 were salvaged & or scrapped.
    • 8005, 8037 & 8038 were bought by Transit Sales International/Complete Coach Works for parts.

  • 8034 was kept at Woods Division after retirement until March 2017. It was auctioned off on 4/8/2017 and was bought by a salvage yard.
  • The remaining 22 units retired by 8/31/2016 and were sold to the SFO Airport on 9/7/2016.
    • However, 16 units ended up being auctioned off in early 2017. 8008, 8014, 8030, 8032 & 8042 were bought by private owners. The others were bought by salvage yards.
    • 8004, 8011, 8013, 8018, 8024 & 8028 were kept by SFO to be used as employee shuttles and were renumbered 701-706.
