Power Solutions International 8.8L V8
Manufacturer: Power Solutions International
Introduced: 2015 (on IC Bus CE Series)
2019 (on Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2)

Power Solutions International's 8.8L V8 engine manufactured by Powertrain Integration for use on Freightliner C2-based school buses, IC Bus CE Series school buses, as well as other industrial applications.

The 8.8L V8 is designed to operate on either gasoline or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), also known as "propane autogas".

History

In 2015[1], the 8.8L V8 began powering IC Bus CE Series popane-fueled school buses. In 2018[1], the engine was further applied to gasoline-powered CE-Series school buses.

In 2019[2], PSI and Freightliner began offering the 8.8L V8 on a propane-fueled variant of the Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2, as well as the Freightliner S2G chassis.

Construction

The 8.8L V8 engine features a cast iron, non-siamese bore engine block, cast iron cylinder heads, cast aluminum intake manifold, cast stainless steel exhaust manifold, forged steel crankshaft & connecting rods, and electronic throttle control. If propane-fueled, a BiPhase LPEFI® (Liquid Propane Electronic Fuel Injection) fuel system is equipped.
