St. Laurent Station is located at St. Laurent Boulevard and the Queensway. The Transitway level connects to the St. Laurent Shopping Centre's lower level. It serves as a major hub between transitway and local east end routes.
Original Transitway station
The station had two separate platform areas. One platform area underground served route 95, express routes and other routes using the transitway. A surface/ground level platform served, and still serves local routes. The two platforms were connected primarily via escalators, which are rare in transitway stations, in addition to the standard staircases and elevators. This station was the most complex and most expensive to build as it required the complete reconstruction of the St. Laurent/Queensway interchange and the construction of a tunnel to allow the transitway to cross underneath the Queensway.
In addition to serving the shopping centre, it, along with the current O-Train station, serve numerous commercial and industrial areas in the area, and is a major transfer point for east end commuters, making this a busy station.
Future plans involve this area being designated a "Transit Oriented Development" zone, and to accomplish that, the city is planning mixed use buildings on the southern side of the 417 in the former Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) lot. Currently this lot is owned by the federal government.
Confederation Line LRT station
During construction of the LRT station, the surface level accommodated all routes servicing the station while the lower level platforms were being converted. Construction on the new station began in summer 2015 and was completed by 2017.[1]
In May 2024 due to concrete damage and corrosion in the tunnel, the station was closed for 4 days while repair work occurred.
