The New Flyer Industries XE60 is a battery-electric articulated transit bus from New Flyer's Xcelsior line. It uses lithium ion batteries from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries which can be recharged enroute using a station provided by Eaton. Unlike New Flyer's other articulated Xcelsior buses, the XE60's center axle is powered in addition to its rearmost axle, improving traction.[1]
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority was the first to order the XE60. Funded by the Federal Transit Administration's Low or No Emission Bus Program, they will receive five buses that will be deployed on their Silver Line BRT.
