MCI D4500CT New Rear Cap

The Motor Coach Industries D4500CT features a redesigned front incorporating headlights from the G-Series as well as an option for bonded-type passenger windows. Fluted stainless steel sides are also an option.

For coaches meeting the EPA 2007 and 2010 standards, they sport a redesigned rear end incorporating changes to the engine cooling system for each emission standard. Coaches meeting the EPA 2010 standards are also equipped with a selective catalytic reduction system with a 15 gallon diesel exhaust fluid tank.

MCI decided the EPA 2010-compliant D-series would use the Cummins ISL9 and ISX11.9 engines. As of July 2010, the Detroit Diesel DD13 was under evaluation. All engines are available with the Allison transmission. The ZF transmission will be made available later in 2011.[1]

Alternative propulsion

A diesel-electric hybrid version of this coach called the D4500CTH debuted in 2007. Houston METRO was the launch customer.

In April 2010, MCI began touring a CNG-powered commuter coach. The CNG-powered coach was leased from New Jersey Transit and updated with a newer Cummins 8.3 litre CNG engine. A new coach was built with an 8.9 litre EPA 2010-compliant CNG engine from Cummins and was toured as well. MCI wanted to guage the market for the coach and show off the benefits of CNG.[2] The tour ended a few moths later, and in October, MCI announced a CNG power option will be available on 2011 coaches.[3]
