Route 20 'Queen's Shuttle' is a seasonal shuttle route operated by Kingston Transit in the city of Kingston, Ontario, within the Queen's University campus district..

Route Details

This route operates from Monday to Friday, 8:20AM to 5:45PM, between the Princess and Albert Intersection and the Queen's University West campus, via the Queen's Main Campus, every 20 minutes. Its main use is for students from either campus to commute to their classes. It serves the Kingston University district, Stauffer Library and Goodes Hall on Main Campus, and Queen's West Campus. The portion of the route between Stauffer Library and West Campus is complementary to the service provided by routes 1 and 2.

This route does not operate on weekends, holidays (school and statutory), or during Reading Week.

The service provided by route 20, along with routes 17 and 18, are partially subsidized by the Queen's Alma Mater Society.

History

Route 20 commenced service on September 7, 2015, initially serving the Queen's Main Campus, the student residences, the Isabel/Tett Centres, and Queen's West Campus, via King street, Stuart street, and University Avenue.

Route 20 was restructured in September 2018; it now travels on Union street between the Main and West campuses, then turns north on University Avenue north of Union, looping at the Princess/Albert intersection. Service within the Queen's residences area and the southern part of Main Campus, as well as to the Isabel/Tett Centres, was deleted.

Vehicles

Route 20 is primarily a 40ft route, and uses New Flyer D40LF/D40LFR, New Flyer XD40, and Nova Bus LFS. Previously a specially wrapped vehicle was assigned to run this route, but due to fleet shortages this practice has ended.

  • Princess Street and Albert Street: Northeastern Terminus. Connection to routes 4, 501/502
  • University Avenue/Union Street: Connection to routes 1, 2, 18, 601, 801.
  • Queen's West Campus: Southwestern Terminus. Connection to routes 1, 2, 3, 18.
