History

Route 16's precursor was a lettered route 'C'. This route followed much of the route of the current route 16, with limited service to the Clyde Industrial Park. Sometime before 2013, C's routing into the Clyde Industrial Park was replaced by route 7.

A major realignment of Kingston Transit's routes took place in September 2013, when express routes were introduced. C was re-routed to serve Kingscourt Avenue on both directions, and was re-numbered 16.

Route 16 was re-routed away from the bus terminal proper on October 13, 2015. It now serves the bus terminal stop at the southbound stop at John Counter Boulevard at Leeroy Grant drive.

Route 16 regained its original route in May 2018, when it replaced Route 7 service in the Dalton corridor.

Vehicles

Route 16 is primarily a 40ft route, and uses New Flyer D40LF/D40LFR, New Flyer XD40, and Nova LFS.
