King County Metro, or Metro for short, is the transit agency for Seattle and King County in Washington state. King County Metro's predecessor was the Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle which took over transit operations from the Seattle Transit System and Metropolitan Transit in 1973 to form an integrated county-wide bus system.  In 1994, the operation of the transit system was acquired by King County when Metro and King County merged but transit remained a separate department.  In 1996, the bus system officially became known as King County Metro when the new King County Department of Transportation was created.

King County Metro has over 200 fixed route bus routes. To see a full list of the agency's bus routes, including all current and suspended bus routes, as well as many of the agency's deleted routes see List of King County Metro Bus Routes.

Operations and Maintenance Bases
King County Metro's service area includes most of King County, including Seattle, Bellevue, Tukwila, Renton, Federal Way, Kent, Des Moines, SeaTac, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, Bothell, Woodinville, Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah and many other incorporated and unincorporated areas of King County.

The agency's routes numbered 0-99 typically serve the city of Seattle, while routes 100-199 serve the southern portion of the county, routes 200-299 serve the eastern portion of the county and routes 300-399 serve the northern part of the county.

Routes numbered in the 600s are typically internal numbers for employee shuttles or other similar uses, or Community Shuttle routes, which are funded partly by the county, and partly by the areas they serve, typically including a hybrid of fixed-route and flexible service.

Routes numbered in the 800s and higher 900s are school specials, operating when school is in session for several King County public and private schools.

Routes numbered in the lower 900s, as well as the 773 and 775 are DART (Dial-A-Ride Transit) routes, which offer portions of fixed-route and flexible service.

King County Metro also operates several bus routes on behalf of Sound Transit, offering express service to destinations within King County. The agency also operates Access paratransit services, which complement the regular fixed-route network.

Much of the King County Metro network operates 7 days a week, although many routes operate only during weekday peak hours, and some routes have no service on Sundays or Saturdays.

Several of King County Metro's routes are currently suspended due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and driver shortage.

Routes

King County Metro has over 200 fixed route bus routes. To see a full list of the agency's bus routes, including all current and suspended bus routes, as well as many of the agency's deleted routes see List of King County Metro Bus Routes.

1050 King County Metro 1050-a.jpg 1982? Renault 1050 was loaned to Metro by Renault. Although it was not owned by Metro, the bus was temporarily given fleet number 1050, because it was on loan for more than a year and was tested in service on numerous Metro routes. Metro was considering using dual-mode buses in its then-only-proposed Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel and wanted to evaluate the technology. The Renault arrived in summer 1982, entered service on November 1, 1982, and ran in service for the last time in December 1983. It left Seattle in early 1984.
